The thing I think a lot of the newer collectors who just got in for 25th aren't getting is the Hasbro side. You might think this or that doesn't take much, is different in this line than that, etc. But it's not really like that when it comes down to business practicality. The accessory packs, for example. Joe may be making a stronger showing now, but it's still nothing compared to the behemoth that is Star Wars, and that's a thing that Hasbro uses to basically gauge the strength of different ideas. Some of the things that are coming, Combat Heroes, Mighty Muggs, etc. Where did these begin? Star Wars. What it comes down to is, if that giant isn't enough to move a product, Hasbro won't risk trying it with a less proven property. And like it or not, Joe is a less proven property. Hasbro's trying to build it up now, but it's still on the low end of the totem pole. Accessory packs didn't sell for Star Wars, so they won't make them for Joe. Even some things that do work for Star Wars (in limited amounts) are too much to risk on Joe, which is why a larger vehicle like the Sky Striker doesn't cost out to retooling despite our niche fan outcry for it.

I agree with what you are saying. But at the same time I do think Hasbro is underestimating the Joe market at the moment. Accessory packs may work with Joes more than star wars because of the diversity of the weaponry in GI joe. How many Lightsabers and Blasters could they make?

How many firearms can they make? Same answer. Star Wars accessories are as diverse as Joe has, potentially. I have to disagree with you though, considering the sheer volume of product displayed at the con I don't think anyone can say Hasbro underestimates the Joe market, I just think the fans really want it to be more than it is and don't realize what a niche market we are.

Most of the Hasbro weapon packs flopped because they were packed with nonsense. A backpack that no one ever saw in the film, a weak wind up droid, and a beige poncho. Where is the kid appeal here? If there were weapon packs filled with clone rifles, clone antennas, lightsaber blade replacements, clone soft good ponchos, blank stands, diorama accessories, etc., I think that stuff would sell.
The thing that puts a monkey wrench into the works is if they can dedicate a portion of the facility to make this type of stuff exclusively. I think all the accessories get created for each figure, meaning they only make a viper gun when a figure requiring a viper gun is made. I don't think it sits in bins, waiting. On the figure "cost" thing, the price listed in the computers at wal-mart and target is the "per item" price. That does not include bulk discounts. Generally anyway.
