Yeah, I didn't realize they were customs at first either. I got all excited because I thought that Globulus and Big Boa were the best looking figures at of all the pictures.

I think any character is possible. Being that this line sells really well, I don't see why Hasbro would not make what the fans want.

Like someone said a few post's back, the reason we haven't seen the customs from last year in the line, is because Hasbro said they would be in the line, but it wouldnt be in 08 and a possibility they would be made for 09.

These figures eventually get relased, not all, as I stated before get integrated, it's not a theory- it's the way the marketing works.
The DTC line that was only seen as customs way back, and was going to be released, then pulled out of production, has now found it's way back in to a DTC line. The definition of soon for collectors and soon for Hasbro are two totally different things, based on the marketing of the actual line for Hasbro, and the hearts of the consumers for what they actually really want. You'll see some percentage of the mock-ups made into integration into the future. The newest is the DTC line with Night Viper, Airtight, Outback, Munitia, etc, etc... Keep doubting. |

I know with the Star Wars line they're usually a few years ahead. With that franchise they already have 2009's line set in stone and are working on 2010's.
You have to think about the concept drawings, sculpting, creation of the molds, paint apps., etc. take a while. So when one team is working on "production of 2009's line" another team is working on pre-production (who will be in it, concepts, etc.) for 2010. Maybe that's why we're not seeing the "customs" from the cons just yet. This stuff takes time. |

Exactly, Nemesis_Enforcer. And what you're talking about is R&D. And that's also part of having the customs on display. It's all about marketing.
You'll see certain figures integrated from their custom form to whatever Hasbro figures out with concept drawings, sculpting, creation of the molds, paint apps., etc. Yes, it does take awhile, but it gives life to the toy line. Seems like a lot of the members on here want instant gratification and marketing and production does not work that way. And at least "Fett,"o had something to say earlier in the thread is getting his Night-Viper. Which was supposed to be doomed in "NEVER GONNA GET MADE HELL" Which is now going to be made available. They will all get made eventually in some form, in some set, some way or another. It's not a question of whom will be in the line, It's just a question of when. |

Rich is the head of design for Hasbro, I spent a lot of time with him at Joe Con. The figures in the case that you are refering to were just as Gunslinger said...Customs. They handed out neat little pieces of paper with them on it and the person who can guess all the right parts wins a one of a kind custom figure by Rich himself. He also held a customizing class there and showed how easy it is to break them apart and to add things to them without having to use GS.
They are just there to show off, like his custom Buzz Boar vehicle as well. This of course doesn't mean we won't get some of these figures. Especially since they are hitting around the 84' and 85' line. A can see a Sci-Fi in the future, sure possibly even a Techno Viper. I doubt we will see a Big Boa or Lobotomax. Due to the release of Nemesis Enforcer, I can even imagine that we will see a royal guard and Globulous, but it won't be for a long time. Especially right now while they are gearing up for the Modern Era line to kick off. As for the DTC line.. They were cancelled to make room for the 25th. And because sales were slipping. Plus it wasn't Hasbro's idea to release them. It took Brian pulling some strings in order to get them made for him to sell.

You also have to take into consideration that while the people you guys talk to at the cons are Joe fans and want to get these figures into your hands, Hasbro corporate craps on Joe fans. G.I. Joe is their 3rd best toy line and it seems like Hasbro fears ramping up production costs and wave sizes because of past failures of the line.
