I hope the Movie figures dont have super likeneses.
i hope the just tuch up the current ones to look like the movie so they dont look dumb next to each other. for the movie Duke take Duke's v1 head tuch up the hair a little, give him a little stubble from the movie make the bodies of the movies a little cartoony so they fit. I have a bad feeling they will overuse their likenes and make them overly realalistic. because I know that the 25th line will get axed after the movie then any characters they make from the clasics then wont fit. |

I mean, there is no way this rather successful line will be re-explored once the movie line runs its course. of course not, we would all be too miserable if we anticipated that, so we have to assume Hasbro is going to dump this line, which has been successful, because we are only happy when we are miserable and fearing the worst. are Joe fans really that pessimistic, insecure and fearful. if so, we shouldn't be collecting because we have nothing in common with what G.I. Joe is supposed to stand for. when did it become a REAL WORRYING HERO? c'mon, people. |

again its not so much that we're being pessimistic its that seems to be hasbros track record as of the last several years. Its not bashing hasbro to say that they killed the tf classics( probably the best tf line ever) to make way for the movie line but it was MASSIVELY succesful and so rather than keep the line going they nixed it for the movie stuff for the major reason that IF they had kept going with classics those WOULD have out sold the movie stuff because the movie stuff, while not terrible, couldnt hold a candle to those updated classics and hasbro knew it. So inorder to push their movie stuff they nixed the line. now here it is almost 2 years later and we are getting the classics line back. It just seems that they know their movie stuff wont sell as well as the current stuff so rather than have slumping sales of movie stuff and great sales of current line, they just take away our options leaving us no other choice but to buy movie stuff. its a tactic and ploy so they can then say oh well movie stuff is hot so lets make the characters that WOULD have been in the modern classics into movie versions so we can reuse even MORE molds and charge more for the figures for less work. Makes sense in a business sense but really screws your fan base for the property.

It's a real catch 22. If the movie bombs...it might hurt orders for any post movie stuff. I mean unless the buyers from the big three really keep up with Joes, they'll basically see the word "G.I.Joe" and a nice little chart showing a steady decline in sales. Thinking they'll look back and go "Hey those figures before this where great.... you know the ones made from the classic guys. Make more of those." is a little naive. I don't think they'd put that much thought into it...it'd be all about stats and charts and the like. More then likely they’ll chalk this little sales rise as a fluke since as rule Joe hasn’t done that well over the last few years. When they look at a long term trend they’ll just see Joes not selling. On the other hand if the movie does great then you can have Hasbro push back plans for whatever is coming after he movie to pump out more movie stuff. This happened with TFs, and it could happen with Joes. I think best case would be the that the movie line did "Ok" enough to keep stores buying, but not good enough for Hasbro to start thinking they don't need the more classic designs. Then they can be phased back in and we can all start buying them like crazy again and things can go back to the way they where. And if Hasbro thinks that slapping a name like "Low-Light" on a random movie figure will make people that wanted him happy, instead of making a honest classic Low-Light then I think they've missed the point about why this line has been successful up to this point. |

You're deluded if you think a hiatus is because Hasbro "knows" that movie lines wouldn't sell as well. It's to prevent in-brand competition and sales splitting, plain and simple.
And there's no way in hell Classics would have sold like the TF movie line did. Know why? Kids don't give a shit about 80s throwbacks. They want the cool guy they saw at the movies. Hence Hasbro's skyrocketing sales. I mean Christ, it's not even like Classics disappeared. There's more hitting now. Do people not understand this? I bought every Classics figure, none of the movie stuff. Didn't need to add a divergent aesthetic to my collection. And I had no problem with the movie line being pushed then, nor do I have one with Joe. It makes Hasbro money. Money lets Hasbro make more of what you want. |
