Considering that Cobra as corporate terrorists or just plain terrorists is getting pretty clear that the lines between good and evil just arent as clear anymore, if anything, they are more blurred than ever.
That being said, what if GI JOE had re-instated the ADVENTURE TEAM project for worldwide rescue/exploration/recovery missions? Downed satellites, missing treasure, trapped civilians in buildings/ships/mountainsides/deserts, creatures and beings of the Deep abyss. Granted it seems a bit of a review, but frankly, Cobra isnt all that Joe is good for. Each speciality area can get one team member and one specialized vehicle. Payload w/mmu and XRV lifting body or similar to HL-10, HL-24 (6M$ MAN) Lift ticket--Sikorsky Sky Crane with mobile cargo case. Deep Six--w/deep sea submersible pod Dusty---w desert Rhino-winch, tow hook, portable crane etc Mike Powers w/detachable arm/legs with upgrades. Jet pack. GI JOE----6 wheeled amphicat w/tow trailer. Shipwreck and Cutter---GI JOE Cutter ship with recovery skif. Can be changed to hydrofoil for high speed. |

I'd love a modern day adventure team, I like the thoughts on sub-sea and space/high altitude as these chime well with the recent attempts at commercial sub-orbital and commercial sub-sea (i.e. Deep flight) vehicles (and what about the world record skydiving attempt from a balloon which is afaiu still underway?)
I guess that one could also then tie in the more "run of the mill" (due to TV documentaries) stuff like Jungle, Desert, etc. adventures. Don't get me wrong, these are still very adventurous, just that we've had a lot of exposure on the TV due to documentaries, but perhaps that's a very good thing really and would make these more appealing |

Just seems of late everyone is getting tired of COBRA being the only enemy of Joe. GI JOE is really alot more and I figure, why not explore that. The Joe club figures that came with the small vehicle were pretty cool, thought it would be nice if the figures came with a larger sized rescue/recovery/exploration vehicle.
The white manta/sea wolf 2.0 was a cool example of that. |

I'd prefer something more real e.g. the Scaled composites sub-orbital stuff: Welcome To Scaled Composites
and for the marine stuff perhaps something like Deep Flight: Deep Flight Submersibles Interestingly in both cases Branson/Virgin is in there doing publicity/sponsorship, but I think I can live without a Branson figure! And for some other random adventure based stuff - parachuting e.g. Michel Fournier .::. Le Grand Saut - Le Grand Saut |

Like this a lot!! The team roster could have both civilian+military members, that have been hand-picked and given specialist training for the adventure team missions, guys like tunnel-rat,airtight,blowtorch,iceberg would be a shoo-in for this team as they have skill-sets that would be really useful outside of military parameters......

Anyone else have any other thoughts on what GI JOE could be doing other than fighting terrorism? Exploration, SAR are about all could come up with other than Extreme sports.
EXPLORATION--I was thinking Lunar or Mars mission focus as well as DSE-Deep Space Exploration. Just a thought...JOVIAN--2001ASO would be kickass. Ocean exploration would be another as well as Underworld/Deep Earth exploration. SAR-would include a variety of atvs/motorcycles/ cars/suvs/trucks/gliders/helos/VTOL/cargo planes tricked out for a variety of hostile enviroments--desert, ice/snow, jungle, even Urban for the dangers involved in large cities. Jovian---longtime love of all things 2001-space pod, Discovery, Aries 1B, moonbus....the kickass frakkin spacesuits. Ocean--this is where deep flight could come in, perhaps even a medium sized sub playset--something futuristic looking but sensible--the Fantastic Voyage Prometheus comes to mind, that would be amazing if Joe could get those B movies as one shots. Deep sea hardshell suits. |

Love this idea, I would also like some Joe/animal 2 packs:
Alpine vs. Yeti Payload (or Countdown) vs. Alien Snow Job vs. Polar Bear Ambush (or Lowlight) vs. Dinosaur And for a nod to Sigma Scale- Snake Eyes vs. Giant Snake Recondo vs. Crocodile Dusty vs. Giant Scorpion Colton vs. Gorilla |
