The Nikon Coolpix S205 is a 12 Megapixel camera with 4X Optical Zoom. It's a very light camera with a mostly plastic shell. It's dimentions are about 3 3/4" Wide, 2 1/2" Tall & 3/4" Thick. The top has the Power button Shutter button and the zoom ring around the shutter button. Holding the shutter button halfway down allows the camera to focus on the center of the lens.
The back has 6 buttons (one being a + with another in the middle of it) to control all the features (or get to menus to turn said features on) There is also an exposure control button so you can basically brighten or darken the picture before you take it (I assume this is the digital equivalent of opening or closing the iris of the camera) The camera is run on a Lithium-ion battery that you can charge up plugging the USB cord into the camera and the included adaptor (This also allows it to be plugged into the wall while in use as well) The port that connects it to a tripod is a plastic screwhole which could wear down over time (especially if you take the camera on and off tripods a lot I couldn't find ANY technical specifications for this camera on Nikon's site so here's what Target has on their site: Megapixels: 12.0 Megapixels Features: Vibration Reduction Technology, Motion Detection, Self Timer, Electronic Image Stabilization, Blink Detection, Face Detection Technology, D-Lighting, Auto Scene Selector, Anti-Glare Coating, Brightness Adjustment, Graphical User Interface, Color TFT LCD Screen, Easy-to-Read Menu System Display Size: 2.7 " Zoom: 4.0 X Optical , 4.0 X Digital Built-In Memory Capacity: 50MB Operational Modes: Smile Mode, Scene Selection Modes, Movie Mode, Auto Scene Mode, Close-Up, Blink Proof Mode, Smart Portrait Mode, Best Shot Mode Playback Modes: Slide-Show, Sort by Date, Zoom Playback, Movie With Sound, Sort by Favorite, Sort by Scene Type, Automatic Playback, Thumbnail Display Still Shot Modes: Party/Indoor, Museum, Food, Sports Photography, Fireworks, Portrait, Panorama, Back Light, Dusk/Dawn, Landscape, Documents, Beach, Snow/Sand, Night Portrait, Night Scene Video Modes: TV-Quality AVI Movie Battery Life-Shots Per Charge: 200 Screen Modes: 16 Image Resolution: Up to 4000 x 3000 Display Indicators: Image Size, ISO Setting, Zoom Indicator, Shooting Mode, Number of Pictures Remaining, Aperture Setting, Focus Area, Shutter Speed Playback File Formats: AVI Movie, Motion JPEG, JPEG/ WAV Image Editing Features: Image Cropping, Monochrome Effects, Voice Memo, Image Resizing, Image Rotation, In-Camera Retouch, Skin Tone Smoothing Aperture Range: f/3.2 - f/5.9 Wide ; f/3.2 - f/5.9 Telephoto Focus Range: 1.67' to Infinity Normal Wide Angle , 1.7' to Infinity Normal Telephoto , 3.2" to Infinity Macro Wide Angle , 3.2" to Infinity Macro Telephoto Image Sensor: 1/2.3" CCD Sensor Speeds: Up to 1 - 1/2000 sec. PERFORMANCE:
Here's a series of pictures I took using the Coolpix S205 using both Macro and normal distances and using flash and no flash. In all macro cases, I got as close as the camera would allow. SINGLE FIGURE: Macro Mode in a Light box with no Flash Macro Mode, no lights on the light box and a Flash Macro Mode, no lights on the light box and no Flash DIO SHOT: Macro Mode no Flash Macro Mode with Flash Normal Mode no Flash Normal Mode with Flash Normal Mode with Flash across a room Full Optical Zoom Full Digital Zoom OVERVIEW: On paper, this should be my dream camera, high number of megapixels, can be plugged into the wall with in use, has internal memory and saves all of it's settings even after you turn it off. Unfortunately, the one main thing I require, it can't deliver and that's very close, clear macro shots. This is a good camera if you want to just take pictures of friends and stuff you're doing, but it fails when it comes to taking pictures of toys, so for other toy collectors, I can't recommend this camera at all. |

In a light box with no flash is better, stick with that I think is better.
