Let me start this Camera Review by stating that I am not a professional photographer, I do not know much about F-Stops, Apertures and other more advanced camera terms. So I won't be reviewing too many of the technical aspects of cameras (I invite anyone who wishes to do so to make their own reviews) What I will be touching on is generic aspects and things I use while photographing toys whether for reviews or just enjoyment. With that said, let's begin...
The Canon Powershot SD790 IS is a 10 Megapixel camera with 3X Optical Zoom. The dimentions are about 3 5/8" Wide, 2 3/16" Tall & 7/8" Thick. The top of the camera has the power button, shutter button and zoom ring around the shutter button. Holding the shutter button halfway down allows the camera to focus on the center of the lens. The back has 5 buttons, a switch and a dial that controls all the other features (Flash, Macro, Video, Lighting conditions IE: Indoors, Sunny...ect) (I had to brighten up this picture) The camera is run on a Lithium-ion battery that has an adapter the battery can plug into to recharge it (You have to take the battery out to do this) The port that connects it to a tripod is a metal screwhole which should reduce wear and tear on it if you use a tripod a lot All of the Technical Specifications for the camera can be found on Canon's website here: Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : PowerShot SD790 IS Here's a picture showing how close I was able to get to a figure in Macro mode for the pictures below: Last edited by Shogi; 01-11-2011 at 11:36 AM.. |

PERFORMANCE:
Here's a series of pictures I took using the Powershot SD790 IS using both Macro and normal distances and using flash and no flash. In all macro cases, I got as close as the camera would allow. SINGLE FIGURE: Macro Mode in a Light box with no Flash Macro Mode, no lights on the light box and a Flash Macro Mode, no lights on the light box and no Flash DIO SHOT: Macro Mode no Flash Macro Mode with Flash Normal Mode no Flash Normal Mode with Flash Normal Mode with Flash across a room Full Optical Zoom Full Digital Zoom Overview: This camera is all around great, I highly recommend it. Really the only drawbacks for me are that it doesn't save the settings you make like putting it in macro mode. If you shut it off, it resets to normal mode with an auto flash. Also you can't have it plugged into a wall while using it (I realise this is a very minor thing, but it would help for long review picture taking sessions) |
