*UPDATE 10/25/10* Reviewed this puppy a second time. It can be found *HERE*. Did I keep my initial views on this vehicle? Read my first reactions below then head over to my second viewing review after.
My first review. Pulled the trigger on this one a couple of days ago. I hate being a completist. I was curious about it. I wanted to get it. I was immediately regretful once opening it. Here's my thoughts on the vehicle and figure. Snow Serpent "Officer" figure: The figure is a let down. Everyone complaining that this was just an ugly red deco'ed Snow Serpent was right. I guess in Cobra's army you can just splash a bit of "Look at me Joes, here I am" RED in your outfit and you're an an officer. There is nothing new here. Same figure, same equipment. More boring than the original. The red goggles are very cool. I just wish the red backpack, webgear and mortar were a different color. A dark grey would have been better. Or they could have given us the grey camo'ed figure Hasbro had originally planned (before deciding to make it a ROC TRU exclusive): I'd rank the ME Snow Serpents in this order: 1st. ROC TRU exclusive 2nd. 25th Serpent officer 3rd. 25th original single carded release ... 200th. POC Ice Cutter release Ice Cutter Vehicle: It looks more desirable in the photos than in person. First the positives. The deco is cool, I like the black on white. The treads are rubber, more durable during play time. I like the elevating gun (too bad it's in red). Nice touch on the windshield wiper (too bad it's in red). The single large rear wheel is pretty cool too. It's a monster! Negatives. The red accents - elevating gun and windshield wiper. Too small. Single seater. No platform or footpegs to carry more troops. Overall impressions: A disappointment for me as I was looking forward to this vehicle. It's really solid feeling. Nice heavier gauge plastic. The "action" feature is neat. It does loose it's novelty quickly. It's too small in my opinion. You'd need at least 3 of these to try to even have a fighting chance against the Joe Wolfhound/Snow Cat. The figure included was subpar. Especially since we've gotten some pretty decent kitbashed bad guy POC vehicle drivers (Cobra Mech suit and Hisstank) and an awesome Dreadnok Storm Rider. I even prefer the 25th Arctic HISS tank driver to this red one. This vehicle makes me wish I picked up another POC AWE Striker or even a second Doom Cycle instead. I'll be using my Arctic Destro as the default driver. I'm regretting having purchased it at full price. I would have much rather have picked this up on sale.

Nice review, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. I got lured in by the shiny photos on my computer. Damn you Hasbro marketing machine! I am glad to see new vehicles, but it's amazing how the included driver can make or break the set. I picked up an AWE Striker and LOVE it! Even though it's another mold rehash, the Night Fox made it worth while. I'm sure if the Ice Cutter came with the arctic Destro this would have been a huge MUST BUY. Hey, I should work for Hasbro Marketing! Make single carded arctic Destro into an exclusive vehicle driver = sell more vehicles! Come to think of it, having Destro be the vehicle operator would make more sense. It look like something that MARS would create. Being a single seater would explain that this was a proto type. |

Funny, since you mentioned Destro being an exclusive driver for the Ice Cutter I'm looking at it at a whole new light. Btw, I gave the Ice Cutter to my eldest boy. He thought it was really, really cool and loved everything about it. I was just telling fellow 'Tanker Nighthawk that it was sad to realize that I'm not the target demographic anymore :(

I like the red and judging from your pictures (nice work!) I think I'm going to love this vehicle. It's on it's way now.
What I get from your review is that if they had used another color aside from red, and possibly a different driver, you would have liked it. I am personally getting tired of all of the snow serpents in general. Never really thought they were that great as a kid. But I think my son will really like this toy. Thanks for the review! |

i never opened it yet, i don't think i will like the figure, and got it to check out the vehicle.. i really don't dig the black and white shapes. the red on the vehicle is silly, they should of used that snow serpent blue as an accent..

Different color, different driver I would have liked it more. At the same token, no one's stopping me from modifying the vehicle to my liking either. Just initially bummed when I unboxed it. The Snow Serpents where neat back in the day. The updated modern era one's were also cool. I feel that now we've got POC (for a short time anyway), the SS could use another facelift. Agreed, the SS blue (or dark grey) would have been better.

i like this one.
my only ''complaint'' is the treads. i wish the rubber spiked treads moved around the wheels, insted of doing the akward slapping motion.
