In between the full Pursuit of Cobra line & bridging the gap from Rise Of Cobra, we have a small selection of figures that are considered ROC/POC. Basically these are ROC figures that are POC themed & made it to retail before the plug was pulled on ROC & POC was pushed back, due to figures/lineup changes, & actor likenesses lost. Wave 5 singles of ROC & the TRU Winter/Spring exclusives fall into this category because they are POC intended figures in ROC style packaging & made it to retail before the line was cut. HFH Shipwreck (Arctic Threat) falls into the above category...
Shipwreck is an interesting Joe... he's been a Sailor, a Seal, a Master Of Disguise, & now an Arctic Trooper in his long journey as a near core GI Joe member. Many fans have scoffed at the idea of Shippy being a part of an arctic assault, but the ARAH cartoon's favoritism of this particular wise-cracking character would show you that Shipwreck could do just about anything, & fighting in the snow (ala '87 Movie) is one of his many skills. Released exclusively to Toys R Us as a "Headquarters for Heroes" style figure (2 exclusive singles packed in a case) Shipwreck & Doc have been available since the beginning of the year, both featuring the POC themes but the ROC logo, making them fit in with either your ROC, POC (or even an expanded Resolute), collections. Shipwreck has the construction using his head from ROC, Duke's (Impact Armor) torso, Snake Eyes' (Arctic Assault) arms & feet, & ROC Ice Viper's legs. This combination makes for a pretty solid arctic-themed Shipwreck. His gear is made up of POC Snow Job's jacket (1st released here), a ROC rocket launcher, the rifle (a Springfield M1 Garand) which was 1st seen on the comic-pack Crimson Guard (Fred), the Crimson Neo-Viper's gaff hook, Snow Serpents snow shoes, Pit Commando's backpack, ROC stand, & his trusty pet parrot Polly (v2). Shipwreck, Polly, & the backpack are all weathered with some nice snow wear... which brings us to our problem, wouldn't an exotic bird be dead in these conditions?? Um...well, as strange as Polly's inclusion is in this theme, I'm sure he was included as a "throw in", or so fan's wouldn't say "where's Polly?" as they are with "Freedom" who was not included with the POC Spirit release. The figure itself has a pretty good range of motion (minus the hips being limited by the jacket), but suffers from what most arctic Joe figures suffer from, being a bit on the top heavy side, between all of his bulk with the jacket, backpack & gear, you may find it a challenge at times to get him on his snow shoes, on the stand, & posed the way you want him. There is no definitive place to put Polly, so you can either toss him aside, or clip him to the jacket collar, rifle, ect. Arctic Threat Shipwreck is not perfect, but he's a good figure, including an interesting array of gear, & the POC Snow Job jacket for the 1st time, he is sure to bolster up your Arctic ranks, & be able to throw a insult, punch, or a dead bird at Cobra in your arctic-themed adventures! Recommended. Last edited by Steel Brigade; 12-28-2023 at 05:13 PM.. |

Not a bad figure. Not my favorite version of Shippy, either. He does fill his cold weather gear pretty good. Don't think that I'd ever imagine seeing him (and Polly for that matter) roaming the Arctic tundra. I can see this Shipwreck manning a TBP just off the coast, though.

Ironically "Fred's" rifle is a Springfield M1903. An American weapon, which is unusual for a Cobra weapon of choice.
Also, he has a gaff hook. I is used in shipping circles either to pull something toward you or push away. Initially these items seem strange, but I think it is brilliant.

Yeah, I thought his spear thing actually makes more sense for Shipwrech then it does for the Crimson Neo Viper.
I like that he fits in well with the PoC Snowjob and the RoC Snake Eyes. I can see a nice little setup of those three and the Snowcat taking on the Ice Vipers. |

I hated this figure at 1st. After I realized how many snow themed Joes/vehicles we will have by the end of POC, I had to grab him. I actually like little subteams and my arctic team is growing nicely.
The spear I use upside down like its a walking stick for in the snow/ice. Ditched his weapon though for a better one. |

As far as Shippy goes I love the figure. The paint apps are awesome, and the accessories are cool. Just like Desert SE with Timber, I think he should have let Polly sit this one out.
