I just got myself a Desert Battle Zartan figure, and, well, here are a few thoughts on it:

The Figure
HEAD This new figure has taken the ROC Zartan head (i.e. Arnold Vosloo) and given it more of the original Zartan face paint, and shaved head. I really like the touches, as it gives the Vosloo head a very menacing look to it. TORSO The figure has a bare torso and arms, except for elbow wraps, sculpted to look like leather sleeves kept together with laces, and falconer's gloves. This gives the figure a unqiue look, and while some may cry out that this a blatant Raptor ripoff, all I can say is, so? Using the elements of one of the more maligned figures of the ARAH era and adding them to an already cool character, thus making him even more unique and cool is okay in my book. PAINT I really like the way this figure has been painted. The legs are a shade of greenish grey, and fades to brown at the knees, giving it a dusty desert feel. The exposed skin is painted with 2 shades of flesh, one a regular Caucasian tint and the other a more reddish tint, giving the appearance of sunburn. Aside from the nice paint tones, there are some circular markings on the body, like impressions left from being a science experiment. These, add to the overall "Sci Fi" quality of the figure.

ARTICULATION
The figure offers regular 25th articulation (this articulation is why I like Joes better than most 1:18 figures) though, to be honest, the arms leave something left to be desired. The elbow can't bend a full 90 degrees, which makes gripping a rifle properly somewhat of a hassle for Zartan. Then again, a lot of 25th, ROC & POC figures have this problem (ROC Zartan, Desert Battle Ripcord, ROC Grand Slam, just to name a few), so, I guess it comes with the territory.

The Accessories
The figure comes with some pretty cool accessories: - Hood with Chest Drapes (sorry, don't know what else to call them) - Sling Bag - Extra Head (Sandstorm) - Vest with Keviyeh, Water Bottle and Backpack Sculpts - Goggles - T-Staff - Falcon with Eye Cover (Sorry, don't know what those are called) - M4 with Scope & Grenade Launcher (Same as ROC Desert Battle Duke) - .45 Cal. Pistol with Red Dot Sight (Same as ROC Desert Battle Duke) - Machete - Spring Loaded Missile Launcher - Zartan Stand The sculpt of each and every one of these accessories is very detailed, and really cool. I specially like the fact that the extra Sandstorm head fits inside the Sling Bag, though this presents a rather disturbing image. Another detail worthy of mention as well is the vest. It's not your regular military "shoulder to waist" length vest, but it is more of a mideval style, up to the top of the thighs. The sculpted cloth segments give it a really rustic and desert feel to it. My first gripe with the accessories is the color of the weapons. Greenish Grey/Olive Drab isn't really the color of weapons. It sort of gives off a plastic kind of feel to it (duh! it is plastic). I can imagine Zartan robbing bank, saying to the security guard, "Hands up! Or I'll shoot you with my plastic M4! Crap, can't even hold my gun properly...!" Then again, this has been my issue with the G.I. Joes since the ARAH era, so I guess it's ok. Besides, it's nothing my brushes and paint can't fix. So No real minus points here. My second gripe is the spring loaded launcher. It is a bit too big to look realistic with any 1:18 figure. Then again, this issue has been raised constantly since the ROC figures came out. And besides, it comes with the item, so I might as well make use of it and attach it to one of my vehicles. No minus points really here.

The Packaging
The set I got came with no packaging (sorry, I'm not really interested in the packaging, but just the figure and the accessories, so I got this one off Tao Bao), but just came in a small ziplock bag. No minus points here. The Summary Overall, I give this figure a 9 out of 10. Only 1 point has been taken away, due to the arm issue. I wish more figures had the arm articulation of the ROC Desert Ambush Duke, or the ROC Jungle Assault Ripcord. Below is an image of the perfect arm articulation in my book (i.e. being able to hold a rifle's sights to the figure's eyes): (I used ROC Shipwreck's forearms on the 25th Snake Eyes Upper Arms & Torso) It is a really cool sculpt, and I see myself using this entire figure to create a Sci Fi character (not in the near future though, as me and my son are still sort of stuck in the Present Day verse we are playing). The accessories are also very nice, so much so that I've already used the Vest and Sling Bag on one of my customs, and the Sandstorm head and goggles on another. On a side note, I apologize for the few pictures I took, but alas, I can't take any more, as some of the accessories have already been repainted. Hope you guys enjoyed the review!
