VOLCANO VIPER **** (4 out of 5)
With ROC prematurely coming to an end in toy aisles in 2010, there was bound to be some casualties... One of which was the wave 3 alpha vehicles, canceled most likely due to slow sales of the previous 2 alpha waves (particularly the overstocked wave 1)... Update: Hasbro said that limited numbers of Alpha Wave 3 have made it to retail, & now Canada seems to be we're this elusive wave has landed, so if you live in US & want this wave, ask a Canadian friend to help you out or head on over to ebay for your collecting needs. Although many people did not want the "Lava Pod' from wave 3, they did want the "Volcano Viper", as he was a construct of previous parts with some hella-cool new gear making him look ready for the extreme heat environment that he was destined for, & thankfully I got my hands on this really great hostile environment figure!! Now the body construct is made up of Ice Viper with a MARS Trooper head, but the cool part is that he has an all new body suit, canisters, oxygen helmet, & tubing, making for a very unique looking Cobra despite being only new webgear on the figure. The helmet has wonderful red transpareant eyes, & the wiring is curling & rugged, the tanks have some nice tampos, & the color palette looks like astronaut/radioactive silver with black, crimson, & white accents, making for a really striking figure. Poseability is only ok with this figure as he has the bulky Ice Viper legs that are tough to bend initially at the knees (this might be because it is pre-mass production figure) but you work them with some heat & then he is good to go!! He really can't fit in the Mole Pod (or Lava Pod in this case) as he is just to bulky with the gear etc... & makes a better stand alone figure than a vehicle driver. He only includes one weapon, which is the Ice Viper's wrapped rifle, this time in a straight black (w/black heat wraps) but still fits the extreme environment feel. Overall he is just a solid mass of a figure & looks great in any Cobra lineup. The only thing hotter right now (at the time of this writing) than Taco Bell's "Volcano Taco", is this "somewhat" canceled ROC Volcano Viper, & collectors are scoffing him up at every opportunity, so be sure not to miss him, as even though he may be reformatted for POC or a future line, it is unlikely that you will get this figure in exactly the same color, construct, or elusive availability... I was lucky enought to get a set of these... and yeah... he's one awesome fig. I could totally see this modified into a ROC-ish Toxo-Viper.

Easily one of my favorite figures from the 25th/ME/ROC lines.
Definitely a 4 out 5 and I liked it so much I ended up ordering 13 total.

I'm glad I could score one. Too bad they didn't release him as a single-carded figure. The vehicles were overpriced IMHO. Some of the figures were pretty cool though. I snagged an Aero-Viper (Crimson Hydra) from a trade, Nitro-Viper (Steel Crusher) from a trade, Red Lamprey (Mantis Sub) from China/eBay a year ago, and now this guy from China/eBay. I did get Rampage/Heavy Metal with the RHINO when it went on clearance.

Gotta agree with you. It looks like it's wearing the protective padded suit they use in self defense classes. Or, what ever it was that Jim Belushi wore in that movie from the 80s with the German Shepard that attacked everything.
