The packaging for this set is very nice showing the contrast between the movie style artwork and the vintage style artwork. The movie side has the green GI Joe logo camo behind the vehicle and figure we’ve seen previously along with the vehicle artwork on the side flap and the character ID card on the bottom. The classic side has an old school explosion behind the figure and a blue background for the vehicle reminiscent of the 2000-2001 Collection line. It has classic looking artwork on the side flap and Snow Job’s file card on the bottom. The odd thing about the artwork is that it clearly shows Frostbite on the Rockslide while the vintage artwork had Snow Job, Flash and Gung-Ho. I wonder if this Rockslide was originally planned to have Frostbite instead of Snow Job?
Snow Job uses his Version 2 mold from 1997 (due to the 1997 copyright on his waist) However, unlike that version, this Snow Job has the original upper arms instead of the re-used Clutch upper arms. This makes the Version 2 body look exactly like the original one now. The lower arms are made out of softer plastic like the last line of O-Ring figures so that the thumbs don’t break off as easily as the vintage ones can. This Snow Job has two different paint applications that the original doesn’t have. The strip of skin above the goggles is now painted instead of left white and the pouches on his upper arms are now painted black. The accessories for Snow Job are all the same as the vintage one. Even the Rifle and Ski Poles are vintage versions with very slight differences to the ones that came with the 25th Snow Job figure. Snow Job comes with two Ski Poles, two Skis, Backpack and a Rifle. At first glance the Rockslide looks like a straight re-issue of the Polar Battle Bear. Upon closer inspection, you see it’s actually the 2002 JvC Rockslide retooled to look more like the original Polar Battle Bear. You can see the 2001 copyright info on the underside of the Rockslide. The only area that seems to have been re-tooled was where the engine cover attaches to the main body. The base of the engine cover is thicker and now has two pegs that plug into the main body. This is where the spring loaded cannon on the JvC Rockslide was screwed onto the body. Everything else on this vehicle looks almost exactly like the original, even the stickers have been faithfully reproduced to resemble the originals. The Rockslide comes with two missiles and a removable Engine Cover.

Snow Job is also the same as the figure that came with the blue Rockslide A.T.A.V. only now all the green paint applications have been changed to brown. Also, the fur on his hood was left white this time. These few paint changes gives the figure a better, muted look. Unlike the previous ROC Snow Job figure, this one comes with all of the accessories the 25th Snow Job came with. Snow Job comes with two Ski Poles, two Skis, Backpack, a Rifle, removable Goggles, a Pistol and a removable Hood.

The Rockslide A.T.A.V. is exactly like the first version, only this time it’s white with a gray camo pattern on it. A few of the stickers have been re-colored to be seen easier on the now white vehicle and the ID number sticker is different. Everything else is still the same. The Rockslide A.T.A.V. comes with two missiles.
Vehicle Rating: 8 out of 10 Overall, I’m very pleased with this "Then and Now" set. The vintage side is awesome and I really have no complaints at all with it. I was rather surprised to notice that they didn’t just reuse the 25th Snow Job accessories for the vintage figure. The only complaint I have for the modern side is that because Snow Job has a skirt, you have to really cram him into the seat to get the canopy to close fully. For those who may have been wondering about it, yes, the modern Snow Job fits into the vintage Rockslide, he just looks like he’s slouching because of the skirt. The $25 price tag is a good value considering that a loose, complete Polar Battle Bear will run around $10, Snow Job runs around the same and the modern side of the set is $17 so that would typically run around $37 Overall Set Rating: 9 out of 10 Last edited by Shogi; 08-31-2011 at 06:18 PM.. |

I LOVE this set! One of the coolest things to come out for Joe in awhile. Just picked up mine last week and it is really great to see the old with the new.
Very cool and as Snow Job is one of my favorite Joes it was an easy buy for me.

I plan on getting 3 more, but I wish the tooling on the battle bear's pegs were made for modern era figs. I know it was made for ARAH, but I think it would have more play value if it was made to be usesd with the newer figures. Unless they plan on releasing a lot of ARAH figures...

Nice review and I must say an impressive set. Now I just wish Target would do the same for a COBRA vehicle.

I like the idea behind this, but I have no need for that 2009 ROC Rockslide, and I don't need another Snowjob, and I'm just tired of trading off pieces that I don't want from multi-packs.
I very well may buy the PBB online, if I can find it loose. I've no need of a vintage Snowjob, but I like the quality they put into him though, with the added paint apps. I like that they've done the hands in a softer plastic too, it shows some thought put into it. |
