Tunnel Rat is the exact same figure we got in the comic pack except now he’s in his Night Force colors. The greens are a little brighter than the original, the ammo belt is more subdued in color and the TNT Satchel is green instead of black, but everything else seems dead on to the vintage appearance. The Backpack is different from the vintage one, it's a black version of the one that came with Airborne. Tunnel Rat comes with a TNT Satchel, Backpack, Pistol, Rifle with removable Bi-pod, removable Shoulder Holster, removable Neckerchief and GI Joe Stand.
I’ve always liked Night Force Tunnel Rat so I was happy to see this one made in the 25th/ME articulation. I’m glad Hasbro used the same figure as I felt it was really good but I would have liked to see the knife become useable and a backpack that resembles the vintage one, otherwise, this is easily one of my personal favorites and a welcome addition to a fan favorite sub line. Monkey Wrench is made up of Gung-Ho’s torso and legs with Torch’s pants pocket instead of the grenade shells Gung-Ho had. The arms are from Tomax/Xamot and the head is a repainted Outback head. Add in Gung-Ho’s backpack and vest, Major Bludd’s Dog tags, Snake Eye’s satchel, Eel’s spear gun, a VvV Baroness pistol (Which we last saw with Scrap Iron) and a VvV Dusty bandolier and you have a modern era Monkey Wrench. All the parts go together fairly well, the pouches on the vest combined with the bandolier and satchel strap do make the torso a little crowded though. Like the other Dreadnok’s, Monkey Wrench has the Dreadnok tattoo on his left bicep. Monkey Wrench comes with Backpack, removable Bandolier, Pistol, removable Vest, Satchel, removable Dog Tags, Spear Gun and Cobra Stand.
While this may be a frankenjoe repaint, it comes pretty close to being a faithful update of Monkey Wrench. Some aviator glasses would have been perfect to capture the original’s look. Personally, I would have liked to see them use Wild Bill’s vest instead of Gung-ho’s but the figure still comes off looking good. Monkeywrench rocks.
I'm so glad they did different paint aps than Outback. He doesn't look anything like Chuck Norris. |

The Obi-Wan head looks better on him. For folks wanting "neckerchiefs" that fit his legs, spare Falcon scarves fit over the leg.
I can't believe they actually molded a new bandolier and not a head... It's got to be from something previous, but I'll leave that to more Joe-educated folks to figure out. Not a fan of this Frankenjoe, and I really really wanted a Hasbro Monkeywrench. Oh well. |

Had to knock it down to an 8.
TR gets a 9/10 for me, for the same reasons (lack of knife and proper pack) Monkeywrench gets 7-8 because the pants are too dark, the rifle is not even close to the original, the lack of glasses, and the missing rags tied around the legs. Throw in Baroness glasses, lighten the leg paint, and ut two of tunnel rat's neck-rags around the legs, and he's up to a 9. Lazy hasbro. Oh, and Shogi, the bandoleir is not new, its from the DTC Grand Slam from a few years back. http://www.yojoe.com/action/06/grandslam3.shtml |
