I noticed that no one really has posted much about the Ice Dagger vehicle for the ROC line and decided to do one myself. Please bear with me though in that I have no photos unless I can find my camera.
The Ice Dagger is an interesting vehicle to say the least. If not for the Snow Cat coming out later on in the line, I'd say this vehicle was to be the successor/modernized version of it. It comes in a kind of arctic dark blue color that makes me think the vehicle would be used for night attacks maybe unlike the other arctic style vehicles that are usually white. It's got skis in the front instead of wheels that pivot from side to side, or stay in place if you push them back , which is a nice little touch for those whom don't want the skis turning all the time. The driver compartment sits two people. It seems at first that maybe it's too small for the figures to fit, but they do. It just seemed like it to me given how close the heads are to the roof of the compartment when closed, particularly Frostbite. A gunner seat sits right above the driver area for someone to man the gun, though I wish the whole thing would pivot and not just the gun. In the back section of the vehicle is a part I'm kinda indifferent on. It's another gunner seat...or rather a missle launcher cockpit that pops up from the main vehicle body with the push of a button, It seems kinda odd to me on the vehicle. It also tends to wobble around a lot being a spring loaded device. The worst part is two panels on the sides of the vehicle where this thing pops up from are supposed to fly open when the chair goes up, but they don't attach/lock into anything when it's down, so they're always loosely on the vehicle. One of the more unique things though is in the very back of the vehicle. A door that drops down and another figure can sit inside. If they had ditched the pop up launcher, they could have made the whole back part of the vehicle a soldier carrier, which I think would have been much better. In total, five figures can sit in/on this vehicle. Two in the driver area, one in the gunner seat, one in the pop up launcher, and one in the back compartment. There are pegs on the side for two other people to stand as well as as an additional standing area for a figure when the pop-up launcher is up. So 8 figures can fit on this thing in total. To sum up the vehicle... I like the vehicle itself as it makes for a cool looking snow vehicle, but the pop-up missle launching seat in the back kinda hurts it to me. I think it would have been a better idea simply to have the back part be able to carry soldiers and I think maybe the idea was originally there with the compartment that allows one guy in the back and then they were told to add a spring loaded feature much like the rest of the line, cutting the back part down to one guy. I give it in terms of a grade, a B. Nice vehicle, bad spring loaded addition. Now for Frostbite.... Frostbite is a FrankenJoe. He uses the Snow Serpent body with parts from the Arctic Snake Eyes (hands, feet, pulled down hood)and a Para-Viper head. It's okay as maybe a generic arctic Joe, but they could have easily come up with better parts to make a true Frostbite. I have a custom one being worked on even as we speak. Heck, the ROC Shipwreck's head would have made a good head for him even since I've seen a custom on the board already using it. Grade wise... I'd say D for lack of effort on Hasbro's part. >_O I hope this review has been helpful as it's the first time I've really written one fully on the board. Just thought since this vehicle hasn't been discussed much I'd throw in my thoughts. |

I have to agree with you on all those points MST3KFAN. I picked one up as well and I'm disappointed with the panels that just flies open. I wish they would have just mounted the gunner pod on top of the Ice Dagger so that they could have more room to hold Joe's in the back as well. But other than that I do like it over all.

Same here. Already owned both the VvsV and DTC releases. Plus, it's super hard for me to swallow a price point on an item that was just on MEGA CLEARANCE not too long ago. |

As I understand in the original, this thing made sounds, and was later made without the sound feature, does the Rise of Cobra version take batteries?

Thanks for the review. I've wanted one of these for a while, although not keen on the blue paint job, this is one of the ROC vehicles I will be getting

Questions: I thought the back compartment held 2 figures.
And has anyone done an easy troop carry custom? Could you easily just remove the spring turret (like you can on a HISS) and use the compartment for troops, or is it more complex than that? |

Huge Pass for me. I own the VvV already, so nothing new. Personally I'm not too into Snow battles so another reason to pass. I see these getting clearanced at some point although, Frostbite may make a good generic trooper.
