Good god. I managed to return Baroness and Desert Duke today, and what do I end up with instead? Heavy Doody himself!
The mini-gun and grenade launcher were calling my name.. my evil, highly susceptible name.. I have some ideas for the figure, so I bit the bullet. Heavy Duty aka Hershel Dalton Sculpt: This figure comes with the "Reactive Armor" outer shell, which consists of silver and black plates all over the figure. Most of them have simulated weathering, which looks pretty decent. The body is large, larger than most figures, since Heavy Duty is supposed to be a big guy. The chest bulges out a little bit, giving the appearance of a "belly", but it is less pronounced once you give him some gear to hold. I think a custom pistol belt or other web gear would help mitigate this problem. He comes with black gloved hands and black combat boots, both of which look nice. The hands have pretty good 'grip' for holding weapons and tools etc. The figure's right leg has a build in pistol holster, and fits the included pistol very nicely, I thought it was all one piece at first, but was pleasantly surprised when the pistol came out. Articulation: The arms and legs both have very good range of motion, which is nice, and he can even do a pretty good "take a knee" position without use of a stand (this is important to me). Both the arm and leg joints are smooth, not loose, and overall well done. The head sculpt is... well.. unique. He has an earring in his left ear, and the head is very long and thing, most helmets I have don't fit right. Paint: The overall paint job on the figure is well done, nice weathering effect, and some simulated grime. I found no noticeable problems with the application. The head sculpt paint is a tricky matter, I suppose it is pretty accurate to the actor, but 7 out of 10 of these figures that I've seen on the shelf have some crazy-ass eyes. Some are rolled back in the head, some are cross-eyed.. or worse. I found a decent one, but I am still not in love with the head. Accessories: Which brings me to equipment. First of all, NO HELMET! WTF! Bulletproof armor, but no helmet. Great way to miss the obvious. I guess Joe and Cobra are observing a "no head shot rule". If they had a matching helmet that went with the "Reactive Armor", I think I would be a lot happier.. but moving on... Heavy Duty comes with a BIG M134 (well, it tries) w/ ammo belt and ammo backpack (Stamped with HD on it). He also comes with a pistol, M-32 grenade launcher, and a stand. The M134 is bendy. It is not the solid plastic that Hasbro sometimes uses for their weapons. This is actually not a bad thing, as it allows you to move it around, and pose it a little more easily than would normally be allowed. The gun has 2 spots where you could attach a sling, which would make a nice visual mod. It comes painted in a generic dark plastic color, and would SERIOUSLY be improved with a paintjob/weathering. Same goes for the ammo belt. Heavy Duty can hold the gun in a couple positions, and generally looks like he means business when he's on the operating end of the gun. The M-32 grenade launcher is nice, simple, bendy plastic, and generic in color. His backpack is functional, with a place to clip in the ammo belt, but I think it would have seriously benefited from having straps instead of just the back-peg that fits into the figure. Straps always increase the 'realism' factor, and I might try to mod some on myself at some point. Packaging: Heavy Duty comes in the standard Rise of Cobra packaging, with artwork on the left side of the package and the figure placed on the right. Decent artwork for Heavy Duty, the back of the package has his "file card" with minor details about the character. The design of the packaging makes it almost impossible to get the figure out of the box without destroying the packaging, which is annoying to me, but ultimately matters little I'd imagine. Overall: Overall, I think this is a good figure. Great range of movement, combined with some unique weaponry really set the figure apart (and caused me to buy it!). The "Reactive Armor" looks nice, and is not TOO futuristic to be used in a modern day setting, with some gear on, it looks even more plausible. I do not like the head sculpt, either in paint or design, and will most likely be doing some head swaps and painting. This figure would make a good base for any heavy-weapons trooper, and with some work you could use these as a base for a modern day armored soldier. Verdict: Sculpt: B Articulation: B+ Paint: B Accessories: B Package: C Overall: B

how could you give the accessories an A- when one of them is a flip'n mini-gun!? Clearly there is something wrong with you.

What's funny is, the other Heavy Duty's back pack has straps. I wonder if in this case, the back pack is supposed to be attached to the reactive armor?
Great review, by the way. i just got this figure yesterday, and I think it is great. It took a while to figure out how to position the ammo belt where it would stay in both the back pack and the gun. Once you figure it out, it stays.

I guess maybe, there is some detailing on the reactive armor that looks KINDA like straps around the shoulders, but nothing definitive. Looks more like straps keeping the armor on.
Not sure why they'd make a separate mold for the two backpacks, does the Desert HD's backpack have a slot for the ammo belt? Maybe I'll just buy that figure and steal the backpack if it does..

What's the trick on that? I've been having trouble with it myself.

It just bends around, I played with it a few times until I got it in place, the backpack and gun hold it nicely, just look at the pictures to see how it bends. You get decent range of movement with the ammo belt as well.

Look at NSA's third pic. Basically make a "U" with it and turn both ends horizontal inwards.

Thanks for the review. Too bad all I want is the gatling gun and ammo belt. If anyone has extras for some unknown reason, please let me know.
