For the 50th Anniversary Joes, Destro caught my attention and I had to get him but Leatherneck was a bonus. The SDCC tan VAMP MKII and blue Night Landing are two others that caught my attention. I also did not expect to like Beachhead. This Beachhead stays true to its vintage counterpart so I am glad I picked up the 3-pack. I like figures from 82-86. I consider that my GI Joe ARAH era, so I decided to forego the rest. I had time today and I decided to see if I can spot some differences with the new 50th and the previous versions of the figures. I didn't expect this to be lengthy. Chime in if you notice other differences. As for the plastics being cheap I did notice it on some figures but in general the same as Retaliation plastic. Also, the loose legs and torsos were apparent in my sets.
50th Cobra Viper Officer - This guy appears to be the same version the POC version minus the chrome dome. It would've been nice to see a gold chrome dome instead - Lower knee pads missing paint compared to POC version - Belt buckle is unpainted and vest doesn't have same level of paint detail as POC. - Overall, this guy is missing alot of paint details compared to POC/30th. Better paint detail and gold chrome dome would make this one pop. 50th Beachhead - This is a nice Beachhead. I didn't expect to like it but I am glad I picked up this set - Uses the same head as POC version and the wrist articulation is a must-have nowadays; much easier to pose actions shots with his rifle - Same Beachhead as V16 Retaliation 3-pack; so knife sheath on right leg; nice detail - Rifle backpack, crossbow, vest, satchel are from V12 Hall of Heroes Beachhead - Right arm has a gold star logo. Only gripe is the "75" logo on the left arm is sloppy. Might as well not have it - Lower legs joint at crotch area seemed tight but torso was loose Improved wrists. Thank you! 50th Cobra Trooper: - This version is a shade lighter blue plastic but hard to discern unless side by side with the POC and 30th. - The red Cobra chest logo is larger. - There is also a gold 50th Cobra logo on the troopers left arm. - Head hair, mask and face paint apps are the same as POC. - The helmet did not have the flesh colored paint inside like the POC/30th versions - The helmet on the outside was shiny not matte, however it was still rubbery soft like the originals. - Overall, the plastic feels the same as the POC and 30th version. - Paint apps are pretty much the same. * Noticed on mine, the silver web belt buckle wasn't painted on the outside edges as neatly as POC version - Rifle and RPG paint apps are the same. - The knife blade is thicker and not sharp and shiny compared to the POC/30th - The two pistols also have a dull finish and appears to lose some detail on the silencers - The barbed wire is different of all the Cobra Trooper's accessories. It is a lighter gray plastic and the spiral plastic is much thicker! It also looks cheap. - The 50th Cobra Trooper I received has a lot of wiggle; a loose torso and loose legs at the crotch. 50th Leatheneck - He looks good; stays close to the original like V1. This guy is BIG & Tall next to General Hawk. This is the definitive Leatherneck in my collection. I can't say much other than he needs a backpack like V1 and his legs really scream Retaliation Roadblock to me. Now bring us an updated Gung-Ho! - *UPDATE - I really took a look at Leatherneck and I completely left out the fact his arms and head are missing some paint. Arms look like they need another coat and mine seems to be losing hair. Thanks Flak Viper 50th Destro - He's got some major flimsy loose knees, WTH?! Other than his loose knees I really like this version of Destro. - This is the whole reason I was looking forward to this 50th 3-Pack. He will be on display as the "Ultimate" Destro in my collection. 50th General Hawk - Accessories look and feel identical to the POC version with the 50th gold star logo on the left arm - General Hawk is the POC version no improvements or changes. In fact all the paint details are the same with a few minor differences. - The 50th paint app on belt buckle was not on point; it had stray paint. The POC belt buckle was filled in nicely on mine - The 50th boot sole is not painted black like the POC version - The 50th Hawk from my set had derpy eyes. The paint app for the eyes isn't as sharp compared to the POC version. - The body plastic feels the same however the difference is in the wrist articulation. The 50th wrist suffer from the rubbery feel when turning his wrist; almost like you're breaking it off from a rubber parts tree. Its binds when you twist *The POC version turns freely and smooth. - Out of all the figures in the 3-packs, wrists do not have the new articulation. - The 50th head plastic was the only part that looked cheap (hard to tell from photo). The plastic was a tad lighter and did appear to suffer the cheap plastic look. - The 50th also had loose legs again at the crotch compared to the tighter crotch joints of the POC version *ADDED 08/12/14 - The Eagle's Edge Box Art Observation: HAWK: "Tryin' out my new Code Name: LEATHERNECK! huh? huh? what'dya'll think?" LEATHERNECK: "...pshhh whateva, then I'm General Hawk" DESTRO: "Bwahahahah! Cobra: 2, GI JOE: 0" Love the 50th Box Art. Hasbro did a nice job. One observation though; the 3-pack The Eagle's Edge seems to be hiding something missed during the initial QA. There are two last-minute black label stickers applied on the box, one for General Hawk and one for Leatherneck to cover up the name tags being transposed or the figures being transposed. Somebody at Hasbro caught it eventually. Peel off the stickers on your 3-packs and now you have a one-of-a-kind RARE set. It will sell for hundreds =) Anybody else have these stickers applied? UPDATE 07/30/14 Nit-picking the 2-Pack Night Marksmen, my observations: One thing to note about this 2-pack set: If you already own the Retaliation Night Viper and the POC Low-Light you will know that the machete and the pistol belong to the Night Viper NOT Low-light. The pistol and machete are pictured above Low-Light in the packaging. A quick inventory shows that POC Low-light did not have a pistol or machete and Retaliation Night Viper did. Just a heads up... I know I said I would forgo the remaining figures, however, I got the Night Viper 25th-style stand that I wanted =). Low-Light on FeeBay now. 50th Low-Light (50th on the right in photos): Overall this Low-light is almost identical to the POC version. The differences are basically the gold-colored stand and the gold 50th star on his left arm/shoulder. This one does not appear to suffer from the cheap plastic or rubbery feel syndrome. However, the on-going paint issue rears its ugly head with this one. This could be construed as nit-picky but these are my observations: - The 50th skin tone is pale, the guy needs some sunlight. The blonde hair is not as bright. The eye detail is not as sharp as the POC version - The knife has a little extra silver on the knife's edge. - The black straps on the 50th are not painted continuously accross the thigh; they just missed each other and do not connect; front and back. - The backpack of the 50th is shiny not matte black like the POC version - The solo bullet on the 50th had extra flashing on the end and the paint is a bit rough. Bullet looks more gold than brass 50th Night Viper: - Not much more to say here. Paint app issue is apparent on mine also. Helmet not painted nicely; it appears a second coat was being applied and someone told the painter to hurry the EFF up. The rifle has overspray. Paint appears to be an issue in all of what I purchased so far. Update 08/12/14: Gi Joe 50th Cobra EEL vs. 25th Cobra EEL GI Joe 50th Anniversary Cobra EEL TRU Retail DATD version I picked up the TRU Retail DATD set not realizing that the Cobra EEL that comes with it is an update to the 25th Anniversary cobra EEL. They look similar and they share the same color scheme. The 50th has a lighter grey color overall. The torso is the same as the 25th EEL. The 50th EEL has longer legs and stands a tad taller than the 25th EEL. Front: - 50th EEL has a matte finish to the entire figure as opposed to the 25th EEL's glossy look (torso, arms and cuffs). The 50th arm cuffs on mine were missing some paint and there is less silver paint outlining the visor on the helmet - Both have identical serrated knives x2 and the same harpoon weapon. - 50th does have the updated hand and feet articulation but the legs suffer from the soft rubbery feel - 50th EEL has the Ninja Duel Snake Eyes shoulder armor. Back: - Backpacks are identical and the 50th has a bit more grey paint on backpack Right: Left: - 50th EEL has some bulk to his legs compared to the 25th version's skinnier legs. 50th stands taller - Black face mask (50th), grey face mask (25th) - Paint application on the eyes is a bit sloppy - Grey armor accessory that goes around the neck on the 50th is not painted like the one on the 25th - 50th breathing hose is attached to helmet while the 25th hose is attached to the backpack. - 50th helmet lacks some paint detail while the 25th has paint app detail applied to helmet. - Bonus! 50th comes with updated flippers and a sub machine gun. At first I thought an HK G36C but not sure. Overall, 50th EEL is a nice update with the better articulation. I can swap out accessories from the 25th EEL to get the better paint app details. Sadly, my Cobra EEL still suffers a little from the rubbery plastic and some paint inconsistencies but not nearly as bad as my other figures, namely Leatherneck. *To note, the 25th EEL holds up well after all these years and surprisingly the accessories it comes with have nice paint details The 50th crotch area is black so you can easily swap out the grey legs for black legs to give the EEL a darker stealthy look. Here, I borrowed Ultimate Snake Eye's skinny spandex legs so the EEL now has a lower skin-tight wet suit bottom showing off those sexAy legs.

Leatherneck's forearms are painted over and look like ass. He was also missing paint on his head.
And that's coming from the 3 I've seen. However, great reviews. This should help some folks out. |

I just feel that Beachhead's vest is too short for that body.

Destro just looks so good that I hope he lives up to the hype. Huge bummer at Leatherneck's hair. I mean c'mon. Good luck with Heat Viper. The four I saw had paint apps that ranged from barely acceptable to horrendous.

Thank's for the reviews. I may have to apply the missing paint to the Viper when/if I ever get one.
[edit] I wonder if Hasbro will take notice of everyone talking about the bad paint application, and do more runs with cleaner paint apps. One can hope, I guess[/edit]
