That Figures: REVIEW: The CORPS! Total Soldier Flying Force 3-Man Recon Set Final Thoughts Lanard's The CORPS figures - along with the Chap Mei/True Heroes toys - prove that cheap doesn't always mean nasty. When you consider that for less than the price of a single-carded figure from any of the ''big'' toy companies you can get three figures, an assortment of weapons and a mini-vehicle, it makes you wonder just how the likes of Hasbro and Mattel can really justify their prices. In terms of articulation, the figures are the equal to - and in some cases even surpass - a lot of offerings at this scale. Indeed, unless you're going for something along the lines of a GI Joe figure, you'll be hard pressed to really find anything superior to The CORPS! figures (annoying T-crotch limitations aside), especially at a competitive price. So the plastic must feel really cheap then, right? Sure, some of the weapons are quite rubbery but the figures themselves are no worse than what Hasbro gave us in the Retaliation vehicle sets. And to really seal the deal, the sculpt work and paint apps (in particular) are surprisingly good and put a lot of other figures of this scale to shame. Their stylized look (and admittedly at times odd proportions) may not be to everybody's tastes but if you're a fan of retro action figures or you're a collector of ''Knock Off'' toys (and that's not intended as an insult to the line in the slightest), or if you're looking for some extra pilots for your Joe-scale vehicles then you're sure to find something of note with this line. As for the Flying Force 3-Man Recon Set, it's a perfect example of what makes this line so much fun. Great, stylized sculpts, neat articulation, superb paint apps and a boatload of accessories, all at a price you really can't afford to pass-up. A fun set at a great price. So, what you're your saying is… if you like figures that are "no worse than what Hasbro gave us in the Retaliation vehicle sets" then you'll love these.
No offense, but my standards are higher than this. While your review is well written it misses the mark by being unbalanced (reads like a Corps! ad) and uncritical of the the Corps! shortcomings (of which there are many). |

CORPS! is a fine figure line for the price and its too bad they dont get more respect. I mean paying 15-20 dollars for a 4 inch figure be it JOE or marvel plan sucks!........no matter how good the figure and to THAT FIgures keep up the great work man I have always enjoyed the posts!

No offense, but my standards are higher than this. While your review is well written it misses the mark by being unbalanced (reads like a Corps! ad) and uncritical of the the Corps! shortcomings (of which there are many). The line has faults, for sure, but it depends what you're looking to criticize. Yes, the proportions are strange on some figures. But I've seen Marvel Universe figures that were equally ''wrong.'' Their articulation is odd - most notably the T-crotch, single-joint hips - but have you seen a lot of the stuff Hasbro has been putting out lately? Yes, as a like-for-like comparison, they're not as pose-able as Revoltech figures. And sure, even the Retaliation Joes had more gear. But judged on their own merits, they're pretty damned awesome when you consider the price, the sculpt detail (which is comparable to many of Hasbro's offerings) and the paint apps (which are tighter than half of the MU line's offerings.) If you're not a fan, I can appreciate that. But a lot of collectors - myself included - like the KO-style of figure, as they're offering something different to the market. Am I saying that because they're cheap they deserve a free pass? No. I'm saying that there's some really interesting and fun stuff being put out by Lanard. The fact they're so low priced is simply a bonus. EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to address the "no worse than what Hasbro gave us in the Retaliation vehicle sets" comment. That was directed specifically at one figure in the 3-pack, the 5-POA Buckshot character.

WAY HARSH! dude, first and foremost its a good review about a related product. and what could be the short comings? of a figure thats about a dollar!? its a functional figure that can stand in with GI JOES for a dollar each? I DONT SEE A PROBLEM?

It is a shame people are so dismissive of The CORPS! as there are some great figures and accessories in the line. I can understand that these kind of toys aren't for everybody but I have a pretty broad taste when it comes to my collection.

Once again Lanard both lets me down and impresses me simultaneously heh. I've got a soft spot for the line (specifically the New Recruit sculpts) and the new desert camo on Ethan looks good. However the "Buckshot" mold *needs* the same level of articulation as the others. The figure is solid and looks like an excellent generic bad guy yet with only 5 points of articulation i'd never pull the trigger regardless of how low the cost may be.
I bought a lot of New Recruits. They need to stick to that design or add lateral hip movement. |

I have the Lanard The Corps! Beach Assault Mission Vehicle and I think that it's great. It's no W.H.A.L.E. mind you but, it's very cool in it's own right. I don't regret buying it one bit (even though I bought it late in the game and over paid) but, I was able to get one before it was discontinued and that rocks. I love it.

My guess is it's cheaper to assemble the new style figures, so I don't know if it would be a good move for Lanard's finances to do that. Which is a shame, as it would be cool to see.
