HOH, Cobra 5-pack #3 ~animation version, Comic Pack wave 7 version VIPER: *** (3 out of 5) The Hall Of Heroes Viper is one of the figures that leads me to believe that certain elements or updates where made for the Hall Of Heroes line 1st, but still got prereleased in other avenues of the Modern Era. I would tend to think that the updated (animated-like '87 movie chrome-vac) Viper head, & hands where made for fans who voted for this guy as they are an improvment over the 1st release that many complained about from the get go in wave 7 with badly positioned wrists & loose goggles, but there's always the possibility that Hasbro decided to double dip by placing this figure in the Cobra #3 5-pack 1st by making sure you get this Viper in some way, but also so troop builders may re-buy the Viper in the HoH line because of the improvements. That is just speculation on my part, but I have a feeling figures with new pieces like the Viper, BeachHead, Flint etc. all had these changes made with the HoH in mind, but still manged to get released earlier in multi-packs as bonus filler to entice fans w/something new. Unfortunately that makes the HoH pricey repeats in many a fan's eyes so... In any event the changes that are made on this Viper were significant in the 5-pack (new head, lower arms, hands & rifle) but are a bit redundant here (except for Troop builder collectors). This figure does NOT come with the new Viper rifle, but instead comes with the original issued w7 one, the standard Vip backpack & the HoH gold stand as it's only accessories. The paint apps are slightly different in that he features the "steel toe" paint that the original Vip has & 5-pack Vip lacks, his side gray pockets are more of a gun metal color, the back of the helmet bar is silver for this release & his rifle is a softer dark gray than the 5-pack Viper. The 5-pack Viper also has arms molded in flesh, while the HoH Viper's are painted. Point for point, this is a decent/but somewhat pricey option for troop building the new animation-style Viper, as he is nearly identical in every way to that 5-pack version in color/build etc. ...but ultimately the 5-pack one is slightly better for the molded flesh color arms & updated rifle imho. Thanks for the review! I wish hasbro would have made these changes the 1st time around. I already have my viper army and don't plan on buying more just for fixed wrist and chrome head. :(

I can't bring myself to buy any of the Chrome Vipers because they won't look right with the rest of my regular Vipers.

I'm wondering if they will still come out with that TRU 5-Pack Viper/Mercer set, except change it with these Vipers if it is in fact delayed & still coming out & not cancelled, I think alot of people would be more enticed to buy a 5-pack of these...
