SNAKE EYES '85 w/Timber **** 1/2 (4.5 out of 5) Coming in at 1st place for the Hall Of Heroes line was Snake Eyes '85 w/Timber. The original wave 1 Snake Eyes flooded the pegs when 25th 1st came out, but by the time the this poll came around, many new fans had missed out on what many consider the definitive Snake Eyes, as this was the 1st version of him to be more "ninja" in appearance which many fans associate him more with than his commando origin. This HoH Snake Eyes rerelease comes in the much requested BLACK (the darkest of the '85's but the lighter gray details may help that) as opposed to the dark gray of the original 25th '85 & also offers a new construction design not previously seen put together on SE to offer not only something different with this release but also what Hasbro & fans may see as a better or a more true representation of his '85 design. This figure comes with the original (& prefered head for me) 25th Snake Eyes head sculpt, the DVD pack new sculpt animation style head offered in the POD DVD box & the Joe 5-pack to seems a bit more animated in styling then almost anything else in the Modern Era line (even the more then the anime style heads of the early releases like Duke v1, Scarlett v1, Roadblock, & Shipwreck v1). The arms w/exaggerated pockets, legs, & webgear are the newer more animated versions found on the POD DVD & Joe #2 5-pack SE's, but he features the updated wrist swivel that only the Joe #2 5-pack has & that the DVD back "forearm" swivel version does not on his right hand. This is a strange change that is surprising that Hasbro would even bother with when they did the Joe #2 5-pack version but is definitely the prefered aesthetic even if unnecessary. The shoes are from the original 25th '85 SE vs the flats found on the '85 animation/5-pack SE. He comes equipped with the familiar uzi, knife, & updated Arashikage sword we saw with the Animation SE. But unlike the Joe #2 5-pack, he does not include the new backpack. My only other nitpick is that he is constructed with the "sweater collar" upper torso found on the 25th '85 SE vs the smooth Animation upper torso found on the POD DVD/Joe #2 5-pack version which imo is more accurate to the original ARAH version. Timber is the version 2 seen with the new Joe #2 5-pack version except in a lighter/duller gray. Definitely one of the best SE's we have received with this line & better than all 3 of the previous '85 incarnations (25th/POD DVD/ & 5-pack) imho. I love this HOH SE....I agree that it is definitely the best version we've received so far. I however preferred the smooth feet so I swapped those out, and I still think the bandolier could look a little better but I think the colors are RIGHT ON and the whole overall look really works for this fig and I'm very happy with him

My favourite '85 SE is the 5 pack one.
To me its the one that most resembles the original one in design.

I think the body (w/the slimmer torso) on the new 5 pack SE is probably better but the colors are just too light gray and I don't like the lower curved right arm on it either...I know it's an easy lower arm swap, but the colors are the only thing that kill it for me. I did however put the wave 1 SE bandolier on the 5 pk one and glued it in place so it doesn't slide all over and I have to admit if you try him that way it looks pretty good

Agreed on the colors, 5 pack would be better in darker greys.
But I can always paint him in my spare time

I got him as a gift, too. the only thing I don't like is the Uzi he comes with. He should have come with the one that was in the last 5 pack. It's much better than this crappy one.

the lack of backpack and unpainted grenades are kind of killin' me on a $10+ dollar figure.
are his hands the same as the PoD version? those looked gigantic and these do not seem too.
