CRIMSON GUARD: *** (3 out of 5) Judging by online stores, this figure seems to be the least popular of the HoH releases, as he seems priced cheaper at some stores than the other HoH figures. There has been MANY Crimson Guard releases since he 1st arrived in wave 5 singles, but the only real change in him other than slight color nuances for the releases was the addition of the “Fred” head & rifle with the ScarFace comic 2-pack. Out of ALL the CG releases we have seen, this HoH Crimson Guard’s deco is identical to the 1st “Fred” release except the braids on the right arm are gold like on the original 25th CG & the SRO versions. The helmet & backpack are painted a nice metallic red, & the visor silver like the ARAH & SRO versions. I would have liked it if the WHOLE figure was a brighter red/crimson color, vs. the muddy maroon we have got thus far. But with this release they were trying to make the helmet & backpack look more metal or hard vs. the softer cloth of the uniform which is effective & does make this release stand out in a crowd of CG's. He comes with the original rifle, revolver, & gold stand. He also has the Fred head that this time seems to be a bit lighter than the comic pack version. They should have also made him come with the Fred rifle as a bonus, but he does not... If Hasbro really wanted to give this figure one last go for HoH they should have tried to fix the shoddy revolver holder that has plagued this figure with every release. Not a necessary pickup except for preferred troop builders types who have the $ or Modern Era completionist collectors. I still think that MAYBE the SRO or TRU CG Squad 5-pack maybe the better/more definitive versions in my eyes... I have so many CG's already. If the rest of the figures colors matched the head and backpack then I would buy a few for sure. Since it doesn't, it's a pass

Just posted this in another thread, but I think it applies here as well. Thank you for your reviews, Steel.
The 25th release of Red Ninja sees the head cast in red plastic, matching the rest of the figure. The comic card release, however, sees the head painted in that terrible, peely red paint they use on the Iron Grenadier. Doesn't match the figure at all, it's brighter, much like the HoH CG. Which would throw the CG "it looks like metal" theory out the window. The Red Ninja's head sure as hell isn't supposed to look like metal. |
