Toys R Us has a new selection of GI Joe-alikes. They don't appear to be from Chap Mei; in fact, they're officially TRU-branded on the packaging. They're having a buy one, get one 50% off sale right now (ending 3/16/2013, but they usually have it once a month), and I decided to take advantage of it and get some vehicles to make some room in my Rhino. First up is the True Legends Ninja Bike. Apologies for the half-decent pics; I only have my phone camera.
Firstly, here's a shot of the ninja that comes with it alongside my DG Storm Shadow, which I've armed with the Sneak Attack SS weaponry. As you can see, the quality isn't great. Its legs are wide enough to ride the bike, and it's sturdy enough for little kids. The sword fits into a 5mm peg hole on the back. Here's a comparison of the figures and the bike itself. It's pretty big, but not too oversized. Let's put Mr. Arashikage on his new ride, shall we? He fits very nicely, and once you get the handlebars into his hands, they stay on pretty well. This Storm Shadow does have the new, slightly odd ninja hands, so it might be easier for other figures. The bike has functional front steering and weapon storage. You can see the sais here, and you can see the swords in the next pic. Yep, those aren't tail-pipes. They're removeable broadswords. The kickstand can't be folded up, although it can be rotated so that it looks like some sort of "leg smacker". Up at the top is my trusty Micra, which is my main customization tool. I wish this pic came out better. The chain end that's in Storm Shadow's hand has had the prongs cut off, because once you do that, it becomes a 5mm peg, which fits on one of a few different 5mm holes on the side of the bike. Don't worry about the original rider--the cheap original drivers are actually practice dummies for my ninjas. The True Heroes toys are notorious for having giant weapons more suited for 6-inch figures. To my surprise, though, the swords and sais that mount on the bike work pretty well. This is an advantage of the odd Storm Shadow hands; they're wide enough to fit these handles. In the back, you can see the chain plugged into a 5mm hole. Here he is with the sais. This mold is a pain in the ass to get standing; in retrospect I should've pulled out a stand. Finally, here's a comparison shot of my Joe vehicles so far. (The other True Heroes vehicles were purchased after this photo.) I keep hearing the Deathklok theme every time I see this. The weird lump on the Retaliator's left skid is Airborne's gear; it fits extremely well and allows him to ride along with Wild Bill like they used to do in the Dragonfly in the comics. If I can figure out how to stage it, I'll try to pose the Retaliator attaching to the Ninja Bike using its 5mm pegs. |
