Courtesy of Meijer, I was able to pick up a Retaliation Storm Shadow. I’m not too excited about the upcoming line, but a few figures, and this one in particular, really caught my eye. There have been some questions about articulation, accessories, paint details, etc, so I figured I’d post my first impressions and some pictures to help others make up their minds.
PACKAGING: Not much to say about this; I’m not a MOSC collector, so I don’t care much about the card art or packaging. IMHO, it’s pretty boring; I already miss the character digital paintings and definitely miss the vintage-ish filecards. Reading the card’s copy, it’s clear the ninja theme for the movie is carries over not just to the toys but even packaging itself. Roadblock is an ultimate ninja commando? OK… reminds me of when some freaked out about ROC City Strike Duke having katanas.

ACCESSORIES: Storm Shadow comes with a pair of swords, a zipline backpack, spring-loaded missle/zipline clip, and small removable backpack/sheath. The zipline backpack is nicely detailed and there’s a number of ways you can set up the cord, but I haven’t really played with it much. The swords are generic; my only real beef is that the handles seem really long compared to the blades. And speaking of… I was surprised there weren't Arashikage symbols on the katanas. Considering how that symbol is everywhere for this line, seeing the swords without them after the last, common mold had them was surprising.
Overall, the accessories are just fine; there are all the necessary ones to make this SS “complete” (i.e. katanas) but there isn’t an abundance of them like in the POC line. They are nicely detailed if not super detailed. I know this is a kid’s toyline first, so spring loaded gimmick accessories are a good draw. With that in mind, I like when we get accessories like this zipline - there’s some added playability without it being intrusive or interfering with the figure (looking at you Roadblock). Noticeably missing was a stand. Thankfully, SS doesn’t really need one to stand, but this could be an issue for other figures.

oh... but I do secretly like the zipline accessory.
Reminds me of "Sky Commanders" toys I had when I was a kid.

I like the figure but the accessories are lame. I was hoping there were more hidden under the side panel.

File cards are sadly missed, even if they are redundant on the 100th version...I don't keep mine in package so, out of sight out of mind as far as ninja commando Roadblock...

Awesome figure...cant wait for this one...this ones going to be my first "definitive" version of this character. Hands down the best yet to date!
As for that lingo on the bottom back..WTF?? Ultimate Ninja Commando???? laughable...I guess Ray Park dosent wanna play Snake Eyes anymore and has to give up the lime light for the Rock..that kinda blows...but oh well its time SNake Eyes took the back seat and I guess this is the only way thats happening...,to make Roadblock the better ninja lol...
