Love the blog Iok. For me, the 1st 25th version of stormy looks nicer than this guy and he's my default.

I 100% agree with the rating you gave this figure.
I really don't think it is within Hasbro's ability to make a "perfect" figure... One that everyone is impressed by and hits every category out of the park. I love the Zombie Viper, but he's definitely not perfect. I love the PoC/30th Cobra Trooper, but he's not perfect. Etc., etc. Actually, looking at the figures I own there is one stand out that perhaps can be held up by which all others are judged: PoC wave 3 Snake Eyes. Of course, if you don't like SE or hate ninjas, he's pretty far from perfect! Opinions and your mileage may vary. Renegades Storm Shadow is pretty awesome. I have everything piled onto his backpack except for his red sash, fan and extra head. Haven't lost anything yet! Nice review, as always.

I agree, I like the 25th 5 pack. This guy is worth the buy for the accessories

Sadly I don't have that Storm Shadow but that does look like an awesome figure.

I know, right? Bloody Ninjas.
As for a perfect score, that depends on the toy. I try not to compare apples to oranges, so if I get a mini-figure that had, say, 15 points of articulation then I'd consider that to be on a par with a 3 3/4'' figure with 30 joints. Then there's a kind of cool/X-factor that is about how the toy ''speaks'' to the collector. I don't collect Hot Wheels toys, for example, as there's nothing there that engages me. I have to admit that Storm Shadow did come very close to getting an A+ but the simple fact was that his gear - despite being awesome - wasn't awesome enough to warrant a perfect score, as it just didn't work as it should have. Had the weapons clipped into place on his backpack or sat properly in his hands then he'd have scored at A+ for sure. But it's sloppy production and a lack of decent QA - tiny little things - that just stop it from hitting the mark. Were it the difference between an A- and an A or even a B and a B+ I'd have probably been more generous but I couldn't award a ''perfect'' score when the toy doesn't quite come-up to scratch. And thanks - glad you're enjoying the Reviews! |

Final Thoughts
I've seen reviews of Storm Shadow in which he's described as ''the perfect GI Joe'' or ''the perfect action figure.'' Without wanting to sound like a naysayer or give the wrong impression about just how good Storm Shadow is, he's not quite at that ''perfect'' level. On paper, he could have been. In practice, though, there are some problems that stop him hitting that high. Quote:
Storm Shadow's gear is a real two-edged sword. Whilst it's a huge plus-point in his favor and I'm pleased to see Hasbro really giving him a fantastic array of weapons and accessories, it's disappointing to see that they just didn't quite deliver on the actual quality. A number of his weapons just won't sit properly in his hands or attach to the Quiver/figure in a way that allows you to store them safely. It's so frustrating because with just a little more attention to the production quality, Storm Shadow would be so much closer to being completely awesome.
Anyway cool review as always, just a couple of things stuck out to me (and serously I have always said even perfect isn't perfect until now LOL). |

I found it difficult getting him to hold the fan, bow and swords - with the former it's a case of both ''grips'' being too thin for the hands. Which would be fine, as that would just require the hands being heated-up a little and given a squeeze. But then he wouldn't be able to hold the swords, as their hilts are substantially thicker.
I actually just spotted a review earlier today where somebody said the exact same thing. So of course, now I need it, I can't find it...

I suppose with the movie stuff hitting now we will not see more of this Storm Shadow at stores. Pity, the ONE time we really could use a ton of SS figures dumped on the market and they hold back!
