Well, although Sigma 6 has been gone for awhile, I actually didnt get into it until the end, and quite honestly got my interest in GI Joe again, although I pretty much dislike everything a few years before (VvV, Extreme) and since (ROC).
But what really got me interested in Sigma 6 was the 2.5 line, particularly the vehicles. I love them and have them all. But what really disappointed me were the figs. Just too many in fixed, dynamic poses when all I really wanted in that scale was shoulder, hip and head movement. So it was frustrating that some of my most favorite characters couldn't sit in vehicles, or came with the weapons I wanted. So to really appreciate the vehicles, and have cool figs to match, I set out to customize the 2.5 line so that I could have at least one 'Normal' Sigma 6 character that could hold a weapon, sit in a vehicle, and wasn't mounted on a stand. For the most part I have been successful, and while these are still a work in progress, I wanted to show off where I am at: (looks like I am limited in the amount of pics I can upload at once so here at the Joes first) Long Range is the one that came with the Vamp and ROCC. I cut is right arm up and repositioned it so that I could have him holding his sniper rifle, which I got from the one that came with the Avalanche set, which was slung on his back. Doesn't look very natural since the gun is so big unless he is aiming it over the hood of a car, but whatever. Next up is Duke, who I really chopped up. Most of him is just the Chow Yung Fat pose from the Circut Breaker set but I only wanted him shooting one pistol so I took the arm from the Jetpack Duke that came with the helicopter set. Alittle stiff, I know, but he is still a work in progress. The important thing he can stand there or pilot a vehicle. Next is Snake Eyes, who is the figure who comes with the Vamp, but the original had his head looking up and I hated it, so I swapped the head out with the one that comes on the motorcycle, as well as his swords from another Snake Eyes (I forgot which one). I actually gave Heavy Duty the gun that Hi-Tech is holding in the Unseen Enemy pack, although I thought while it looked like the one he comes with in the 8 inch scale, it is just too big for High Tech. Since it is the biggest 2.5 scale 'official' gun in this series, I gave it to Heavy Duty. I typically dont like making custom weapons and try to stay true to the design of the line, so while it doesnt look like anything Heavy Duty had in 8 inch, its the biggest gun I have for my 2.5 collection. Next are the some of my favorite: Hound, Hi-Tech, and Lt Stone. Hound I made up from two seperate Hound sets from Unseen Enemy. If you remember, he was attached to the base of Hi-Tech and I hated that. So swapping out some legs I have an independent one. I love Hound in the cartoon, and having him in 2.5 scale makes me smile. Hi-Tech is basically the same fig that comes with the Iron Hammer, only since he wasnt holding anything, and while I did have guns to spare, I decided to give him the scanner he has in Unseen Enemy. So kind of Star Trek like, but since he does techie stuff and not really fighting most of the time, I like it. I have extra arms so I can give him an extra Snake Eyes Uzi or something. Lt Stone, which the snow version holding two pistols, is really rare. I got lucky and got two sets. The snow one was meant to mount on a Snow Board, and in its self is actually a cool figure who can aim two pistols at something. But I really like the Lt Stone from the Dragonhawk set, since that looks more like the one we see in the cartoon, so I carefully swapped out a head (I had to make a new mount which is super fragile), and gave him one of the pistols from the extra snow Lt Stone. I love the helmeted version of Lt Stone, dont get me wrong, but I prefer him not wearing it most of the time. Cobra coming up next! Last edited by Cerebral Dissolution; 01-27-2010 at 08:30 PM.. |

Those turned out fantastic, I really like long range. I think the 2.5 inch line had some great vehicles and lot of possibility but agree with you the figures with the static poses left a lot to be desired.

Now for Cobra:
First up is Baroness. While her kicking and cracking a whip is hot, it gets old after awhile, and I prefer my people shooting. So I cut her leg, added some green stuff, and got rid of the whip and replaced it with a second pistol. Still too fixed posed, but since it is the only Baroness version available it will have to do. The right arm does have some mobility so as long as she is shooting she does look cool. This Destro is the one that comes with the Mantis, and I decided to give him an arm from the Destro version that comes in the Baroness/Destro/Firefly pack. While I didnt do a good job taking a pick of the missle launcher, I'll just say that I did customize it to look more like a big plasma cannon. You can't really see what I added, but when I am done painting him up, I'll take better pics. The Zartan is the rarest figure I have, and this is the only one. I was close to trying to chop up the Unseen Enemy version with the crossbow, but I really didn't want to, and when I was finally able to score this one it was a done deal. I am not so interested in his skimmer, but I still want him to be able to drive it naturally, and since I have seen him use a pistol several times in the cartoon, I decided to give him one of the extra Lt Stone ones. I'll take off the silencer at some point. Not flashy, but neither was he in the cartoon. Firefly is the one that comes with probably one of the greatest Cobra vehicles of all time, the Street Razor. I took the machine gun from the same 3 pack above, and while that is still attached to the original hand, I made the flare thing an option I can remove. I have a second Firefly for the vehicle, and then this one is for kicking Snake Eye's ass like he did in episode 25. Next up are my newest works, the Cobra Troopers. I love grunts and love the anime style Cobra Troopers in Sigma 6 (reminds my of the original Guyver bad guys if anyone knows what I am talking about). Anyway, hate the original pose. Also hate the medium grey pants and arms. The cartoon had that medium grey as really dark grey, almost black, and I really hate doing too much paint because I hate how it wears off. Luckily, Games Workshop's foundation series seems to be holding up well and is much darker than the original, so they are all getting the treatment like the guy in the middle. The others I am in the process of re-posing. So far they are actually coming out well, retain the same shoulder/hip/head mobility and can stand on their own. I am making as many variety of Cobra Troopers as I can. Last is an attempt to make a not so dynamic and yet posable Bat Ninja. You can see where I have swapped out parts. Not great cause he can't stand on his own, but good enough to mess around with. Since human grunts are hard to find in this series, I really wanted a normal looking Cobra Eel. I REALLY wish they released at Pirate set with that sub because it looked like they were going to release an Eel that could sit in a cockpit. But since they didn't I swapped out body parts from the Shark Bite set to make what you see here. I know many still need paint, and some day I'll finish them, but I thought you fellow Sigma 6 fans would like these. |

I see! I really admire your dedication to this corner of the GI Joe universe ! Much like yourself I wasnt moved by anything a few years before Sigma 6 (VvV, Extreme) and since (ROC). Those lines were ok but there was a magic missing that caused me to stay away. Sigma 6 , both scales but primarily 2.5'' for me, *DID* have that magic. It felt like a kids show and the theme was a nice departure from the norm at the time. Tne new cobra troopers , the armored duke, the bandanna wearing Heavy Duty, Robots ..it was just a nice departure from previous incarnations. Light. Fun. And did i mention the 2.5'' scale vehicles?
With that said though your customs are functional and look good. A few more points of articulation would make them exactly what they should have been when released originally. I simply dont accept that smaller = less articulated. Minimates , although different, are proof that thats BS. I hope you dont stop working on those fgures & continually upgrade them. A squad of Cobra troopers with full articulation next to a Sigma 6 HISS tank would be incredible. |

Have you tried to using the straight limbs from Battle Force 5 figures to replace the overly posed arms or legs? The heroes from that line have very Sigma 6 looking suits on. Perhaps a little head swapping would give you a few more options as a customizer.
I agree that these figures needed at least as much articulation as M.A.S.K. or 2" Terminator because they would be more playable (slightly) with straight arm movements. Nice job trying to fix the static. Have you tried to mold a few new arms yet? |
