I do think they were too stylized. Even the figures I like, the 2007 ones, could have been toned down in that regard.

But I will also say, that I feel realism in toys/action figures is overrated. I like a little exaggeration or stylization. I think kids do as well. The 80s ARAH O-ring figures were stylized, they weren't realistic. And they have a lasting charm and appeal to them. And obviously kids loved them.

So I don't know. Sigma 6 had plenty of problems, it's not ideal. But neither is Classified. The GI Joe toy line that strikes all the right balances to really strike my fancy in just the right way, remains elusive.
Yeah, I would of probably bought these all back in the day, I was heavily into 6 and 7 inch figures back then, if these looked more realistic, I so would of bought ‘em and all over them, wanted 6 inch GI Joe for so long, go figure when I end up changing scales to 1:18th a few years back then Classified’s come along lol! :P

(I was a 3:3/4 action figure collector first tho originally).

By the end, they were ditching the Sigma 6 moniker on the packaging.

I got Grand Slam, Wet-Suit, Shipwreck, Destro V1, Cobra Commander V2, and High Tech V2 in today. I really do love these figures. They're just so much damn fun.

You ain't gonna see a Classified Heavy Duty with a missile shooting rig like this:

How about a jet pack with pop-out wings like this:

Towards the end of the line in 2007 they started to bring in some Adventure Team influences like this, and the "Sigma Suits" (which are like the Rise of Cobra black body suits) got dropped:

They even began to introduce wildly imaginative characters like this Dark Ninja Master by the end:

The line began in 2004 with one aesthetic, using the ubiquitous "Sigma Suit":

And ended in 2007 with a very different aesthetic:

I understand how people get hung up on the stylized, almost "anime" look of the figures, and the lanky proportions (which weren't as bad in the later waves). But I think there is a lot that can be learned from Sigma 6, and aspects that can still be incorporated in modern lines such as Classified - maybe the creative approach to accessories, for instance.

There was a certain fun factor that Sigma 6 had, you could do a lot with the figures and all the modular accessories. Plus they had amazing articulation for their time. They didn't shy away from bright colors, even splashes of neon, and they got very creative with designs and accessories.

Try taking a closer look at Sigma 6 and appreciate at least a few of it's elements or contributions. Also, just try and tell me that it wouldn't be freakin' badass to get one of those Sigma style missile launchers or jet packs in Classified.
Man, I weep for the unreleased Sigma 6 Adventure Team sets. Someday, I may very well break into Justin Bell's house (in Minecraft) to steal that Adventure Team Dusty prototype he managed to acquire...

Some of the best G.I. Joe toys ever made, IMHO, bar none.

Again like I said elsewhere you don't have to love Sigma 6 but you must study them, you must learn from them, you must apply your lessons.

I just want to bump this thread damnit! Take it, leave it, but get ready.

Let's recall, what might have been. A glance back into another reality, in 2007. Remember or discover. It's monkey time again!

I'd say more Mignola/Team Fortress 2 than anime. Appreciate Sigma 6 but it's before my time. Went back to collecting in 2012.

I know, I began collecting again in 2009. I bought my first Sigma 6 in maybe 2016? I always assumed they were junk, from what I had heard. I was rather shocked, when I got a few in hand. They were an experience, to say the least.

I can see how they can be an "acquired-taste", so to speak. But I still recommend any GI Joe enthusiast, to pick up two or three of the better ones, just to get a sense of them. For comparison purposes ;)

Can we not all appreciate some of this gear? Is it not some of the tastiest?

Read the review of this figure by the Great Justin Bell, a true Sigma 6 aficionado. A treasure of (forgotten?) GI Joe history:
