Well it's interesting to see that the poll is almost neck and neck, yes vs no. Better than I expected around these parts!
How about this compromise proposal: 4" kid-oriented Sigma-style line (as new main line), supplemented with 6" collector-oriented Star Wars Black Series-style line. Then the Club could continue with Modern Era 4".

I would love to See Sigma 6 return! Preferably 6" scale as that's a good compromise between 4" and 8".
For younger kids, bigger figure is better! |

The big question is playability. ARAH figures had excellent playability, sturdy with enough articulation to be functional and still fun. Modern era, although I love the sculpt and articulation, do not have the playability of the original line. I've seen kids go for the modern figures because they look good but get frustrated and switch to the old line because they were easier to play with. These look like they'd have the durability and functionality of the old line and be sculpted in a such a way as to be less intimidating to parents that don't want modern military toys. If these were marketed as an Adventure Team line without weapons or with very limited weapons they might do well. For me personally, I wouldn't care for them.

I certainly wouldn't want a kid-friendly line to supplant a collector-oriented 4'' line, nor would I want to have to rely upon the Club (whose prices are very high, and whose contract isn't up forever) for my 4'' figures. I'm also not interested in 6'' figures at all. I'd prefer if Hasbro kept producing ME 4'' figures alongside their kid-friendly ones.

And with 4", you'd at least have the possibility of getting some vehicles, while with 6", not so much. Quote:

But as it is, I just don't see Hasbro getting what it wants and needs for GI Joe (namely a fresh new fanbase), using Modern Era.

I agree that Hasbro isn't getting much success from the 4'' ME line, and that they need to diversify, but I think getting rid of the line altogether is going too far in the wrong direction, and would alienate too many fans. I think there's room for both a kid-friendly 4'' line and an adult-oriented 4'' line to coexist.

Modern Era was designed to take advantage of the adult collector nostalgia market. It worked well for a few years, but has seen diminishing returns, basically ever since ROC. What are the odds that pattern will suddenly change? Everyone hoped Retaliation would fix everything for the toyline, but it probably just aggravated the declining situation even more. Hasbro needs to appeal to a new young audience now, while GI Joe still has some juice in it. Why try and shoehorn Modern Era, a line designed for collectors, into this process? Something needs to be custom designed to the new objectives and circumstances at hand. Best case scenario, that newly designed kid-oriented toyline would have some collector appeal to it, just as Modern Era had some incidental appeal to younger people, even though they were not the original intended market. ___ EDIT: I kind of misread MagicWazard's statement as saying there's "NOT room for both a kid and adult 4" line" when he actually said there IS room, which I do agree with, at least, in the long term. But, perhaps the collector line (whether Modern Era or something new) may have to face a hiatus until the kid line can really get going strong, and then the collector line can come back with a vengeance, riding on whatever success the kid line has generated. But in the short term, perhaps there wouldn't be room for both.
