Tight- if you haven't seen "high tension", do.
Watched it again today for the third time since I saw it in the cinema in Waltham very art house. I could teach a class on philosophy and psychosis in horror cinema, and this would be first nights required viewing. The flick is very much centered around splatter feast gore, so some squeamish horror fans should avoid. It's got a wicked story, great effects, good ending. You'll dig it. Also sante sangra Spanish language weirdo horror, great flick, low budget. Still awesome movie, no need for big effects.

And finally, I can't say enough good things about "the mist", its freakin perfect in so many ways. People list Texas chainsaw and the exorcist in their classic lists, but damn it if this movie doesn't place in my all time top ten!
YouTube has the mist in its entirety up if you search it you will find it.

I've seen High Tension and The Mist several times and own them both. My horror library is pretty extensive but my best friend owns over 3500 DVDs and hundreds of them are obscure, foreign, or underrated horror movies, some decades old, that most have no idea exist and have never seen. I have full access to his movies which is awesome!
The Mist is a spectacular movie that was sadly overlooked by most. Another masterpiece by Frank Darabont (Director of Shawshank Redemption and lynchpin of The Walking Dead) based on a Stephen King story. Even features several cast members from TWD. The dvd offers a B&W version of the film as well which somehow is even scarier than the original. Great movies.

Darabont rules. Season 2 wouldn't have dragged if AMC allowed Darabont to follow his vision. Now the show is on it's 4th showrunner. They burn through showrunners like Spinal Tap burns through drummers.
I still count the ending of the Mist as the single most depressing ending ever. I walked away so saddened by what just occurred. The single most depressing movie from start to finish I've seen is The Road. And I don't count extreme gore/fetish/rape/torture flicks like A Serbian Film or the Human Centipede cause those are just some sick fuckos with a camera. |

Argh! I got it on DL right now. Hopefully I'll get to watch it tonight. It's slow on Sundays. I was going to wait but it people on HT are freaking out over it.

About to watch it now. If it's what I expect based on what I've read on the Song of Fire and Ice wiki page of the books, yeah shocking indeed.
Glad to know it's back on track. It was feeling a bit plodding for a stretch. But last episode righted the ship. |
