POC Viper has Blue wrist guards and 30th Viper has Red wrist guards, that's the only difference between the actual figures. Their accessories are also different. You do know about YoJoe.com right? Most questions like this can be answered from that web site. They have a parts break down, pictures of accessories, pictures of the card, etc.

I'm well aware of that, it's just recently when I saw folks on Hisstank discuss or list those specific figures for sale that they kept mentioning "chrome faced" or "(chrome)" head. It just made me wonder if there was a variant floating around that had a silver painted facemask instead of the chromed one. I know they did this variation in the past with some 25th viper figures, so I wondered if they might have repeated such a thing with the modern vipers.

They never had a variation with one having a chrome face and the other not having it.

-The 25th Viper was released single carded and had a silver painted face and removable goggles.

-The next version released was the one from the 5 pack which has the chrome face and "fixed" arms which were cast in flesh with painted gloves.

-Next was the Hall of Heroes version, which was nearly identical to the 5 pack version except for the fact that his arms were cast in a different color with painted flesh.

-Then there were the two from the POC line and the 30th line.

All different versions, not variations.

If you'd just take my advice and look for yourself, not only would it stop you from repeating questions, you'd see that YoJoe.com states in the "Variations" section for POC Viper:

No variations of Cobra Viper (v27) are known to exist.

...and for the 30th Viper:

Initial releases had different weapons listed on Cobra Viper's filecard than later shipments.

Why would you want that shitty painted visor anyway...If they did that it just means Hasbro got lazy and painted it instead of chroming it... Wouldn't be a variant just garbage people trying to pass as a variant..

I don't want it, I like the Chrome better than silver paint(unless it's the silver paint they used on POC Wave 5 Cobra Commander's mask-that tuned out nice), I was just curious as to if there was such a variant.

What did you folks think of the "Gold" face variant on the Hall of Heroes Cobra Viper? YoJoe! doesn't have it listed on their website.

The "gold" version isn't listed as a variant because it doesn't exist. It was determined that the few "gold" versions that people have in hand are unfortunate victims of a yellowing discoloration. I believe this was addressed in a Q&A quite a while ago when they first started appearing, although it wasn't a question from HissTank, it was from another GI Joe forum.

Huh. Well now I know...

Did they determine if it was sun discoloration or some factory discoloration during the chroming process? I know many of the chromed Beast Wars figures had slight color differences which could be attributed to how much of a color was used during the chroming process. On some figures, their chrome could be found in gold, or orange, or red. Like an increase or decrease in intensity.

It was a color/tint issue in the caroming process, not sun damage. I got 2 of the "gold" vipers while scouring MA TJMaxx and Marshall's during Christmas a couple of years ago (ended up with a couple dozen total). One is darker than the other. Some vipers were even found with little bits of dirt/artifacts caught under the chrome, creating bumpy textures on what was supposed to be a smooth finish.

Stick with yojoe.com for any variation questions, they cover 99.9% of all joe figure details, including variations.

Huh. Do you think they should make a "factory errors" section so folks don't confuse them with actual variations?
