I checked the target site too... said they were available at my local target. Their computer said they had them in the back, but the lady said they have a release date of the 28th and she refused to sell them to me.

Can the torso and pelvic region of 25th Joes be split apart?

I have a great idea for my first custom but I'm trying to keep the details of it a secret.

It can indeed be split apart, as I have hundreds of times. There are several ways to do it though. Do you own any decent tools?

Yes. I looked at some of the tutorials here and I have all the tools they mention.

My plan is to split apart the upper torso, lower torso, combine them from the waistline up into 2 halves and dremel out their insides so they are hollow enough to house a mechanism which will also be partly housed in the pelvis. The mechanism will either be harvested from another toy or scratch built depending on how small it needs to be in order to fit inside the torso.

This is more of a custom where I'm trying to keep the original toy as intact as possible while giving it a special action feature.

Don't bother with Worcester Target until the 28th. Even though I called, was told they were out on the shelf, and available for sale at $9.99. They were not when I got there. Guy in electronics checked out back and said he would get into a lot of trouble if he pulled them due to the case saying do not sell before the 28th.

Thanks for the tip man, I stopped by and picked up some of them for myself! I called and had them hold everything else until I got there, it looks like the ones you bought were the only ones missing from the 2 cases that they got in. Was hoping to get a joe trooper but you cleaned up on those! I'll get mine eventually. But seriously, thanks for leaving some of them behind. You left both Zartans though? Not a fan? I'm totally loving that figure.

Anyway, I picked up the remaining red ninja, paratrooper, cobra commander, and both of the Zartans. I wasnt interested in anything else and I left it all on the pegs for whoever wants it: there are 4x Roadblock, 4x Snake Eyes, 3x Storm Shadow, and 2x Duke as of 7:30pm on Wednesday if anyone wants to go get them. Price was $9.99 per figure.

It's been a good week hunting for me, both ninja 3-packs from TRU and 2 cases of wave 1 at Target all within 2 days, and all 12 days before the toys' official release date! Hope everyone else starts finding stuff soon. If this Target was any sort of model instance, it appears as though Targets are getting in at least 2 cases of wave 1, although this may or may not be the case depending on the area.

Don't listen to them, the whole "we can't sell them to you" is all a bunch of bullshit- There's a difference between a "street date" and a "release date", many toys have release dates which are approximate estimations of when those cases of figures will arrive and will be put out on shelves, this can vary depending on the store. A hard release date will have the "do not open/sell until...", like the dark of the moon transformers toys from last summer for example, which had an official release date of 5/16/11 (ironically, exactly 1 year ago today). Those cases will have the little logo warning on the box that will tell you not to open them and the registers generally will not even allow them to be run out either. I tried to buy a ROTF Demolishor that was put onto a Walmart shelf prematurely back in '09 and they refused the sale and took the item from me. I don't know this for sure but I've heard from 2 reputable sources that the retaliation joes do NOT have a stamped DNR date on the box, but I could be wrong. The fact that mine didn't ring out normally at target and that my ninja 3-packs rang out normally at TRU yesterday leads me to believe that there is no strict date of the 28th for these figures as some have been speculating.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. There's a lot going on inside a modern-era torso that you should be aware of and there's not much room in there at all. It's just not as empty and simple as unscrewing an ARAH torso.

First off, as you said, the torso is divided into 2 parts, the upper and lower pieces, which swivels at the chest. When you split the torso, you wind up with 2 halves of the upper and lower torso. Inside the upper back piece, the upper torso has 2 designated slots on each side for the bicep discs to fit into and swivel up and down comfortably and in the middle is a molded blocky square, which houses the hollowed out hole for the backpack to fit into. At the bottom of this block is a flat side that forms the top of the slot to hold the swivel post, a 3 piece axel that connects the upper torso to the lower torso. Below the swivel post is the T-bar, which connects to the thighs.

Anyway, there's not much room in there, but I dont know the level of complexity you're looking to put into the torso. I don't want to say that it cant be done but it will be extremely challenging to a novice customizer who has never even cracked a torso.

I could go on in further detail, but this is a sightings thread and I don't want to clog it up with too much custom talk. PM me if you need help though, I'd be happy to lend you my assistance and advice.
