Westerly Walmart came through again. They had all of Wave 4? minus the destro. Bought the 2 AV's. Also, they have some scattered waves of the latest SW VOTC. So does North Kingstown Walmart as of Thurs.
I will be at the meet. I have a shock trooper for Storm if he needs it still. I am currently looking for Volcano Vipers if anyone has any extra. I need four. I also need the ferret that leatherneck comes with x2. For Star Wars, I need Fi-Sirch MOC and General Lando MOC.

WHA?!?! I was at that Target yesterday morning at opening and again at closing time (I needed to get some cleaning supplies and then went back for light bulbs) and all they had were multiples of the figures from this wave:
^Does the Benny's still have that Arctic Sub vehicle? (actually, what do they have left for ROC vehicles) And what do they have left for POC Joes? . . . . . Benny's still had it at around 2PM today. I considered getting it, but just couldn't justify spending $16 on a figure I just KINDA wanted, when I didn't really want the vehicle. Especially when I'm not a big fan of the Mole/Lava Pod but still got it for the Volcano Viper, so I left it. |

Damn, bad luck! I hope you could make it back there today, they must've just put them out when I was there. That would explain why there were so many.
I'm honestly most interested in what was on display at Joecon 2010 back when it was in Providence. I was blown away by all the awesome stuff there: the accessories (Lowlight's 1 bullet, Destro's stackable money), the character designs (Wave 3's "Sideshow" Snake Eyes, the "nightmarish" Jungle Viper, Firefly, Shadow Tracker, etc.), the vehicles (HISS, VAMP), the influences and homages to movies, video games, and Hollywood actors(Aliens, Predator, Metal Gear, Modern Warfare, Bruce Lee, A Karate Kid, Prince of Persia, Ninja Gaiden, Schwarzenegger, Ventura, Sonny, Galifianakis, Berenger) it was all so awesome. I also really like how there were multiple figures of the characters (Duke, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Destro) that were never bound to a certain environmental expertise(Dusty-Desert, Snow Job-Arctic, etc.), each one tailored for battle in a certain environment or setting (Desert, Urban, Jungle, Arctic, etc.). That was really neat seeing how all of these characters would adjust to different scenarios and environmental conditions. It was also nice that the ones who were already designed to a specific setting (Dusty-Desert, Snow Job-Arctic, etc.) stayed there and really showed their usefulness in that specific environment (skis for Snow Job). All this new 2011 stuff with guys like Croc Master and the Steel Brigade just interests me to a point, it's nice but it has me nowhere near as excited for the first POC stuff (waves 1-4). Probably has to do with there being very little film or video game influences and homages, if none at all. That might explain why I feel the new upcoming waves seems so "out of place" with the first four waves of POC toys. Honestly, all this new stuff seems more like a POC line with 25th influences in place of influences from films and video games. I mean, just look at the lineup: Blowtorch Cobra - The Enemy Cobra Commander General Hawk Jungle B.A.T. Steel Brigade Snake Eyes Temple Guardian Crazy Legs Croc Master Rock Viper Viper Iron Grenadier These guys make me feel like I'm buying 25th figures again. The only ones that seem most like POC figures to me would be Snake Eyes and the Iron Grenadier because they would fit in very well with the figures from the first four waves. I mean, if we're dealing with different environments, what would their settings be? Where would we place them? I'm just taking some wild guesses here: Jungle: Blowtorch, Jungle B.A.T., Croc Master. Urban: Cobra - The Enemy, Cobra Commander, Steel Brigade, Iron Grenadier, Viper, Crazy Legs, General Hawk. Arctic:????? Desert: Snake Eyes Temple Guardian, Rock Viper. These are just some of my thoughts on how I feel about the upcoming figures and the look of the overall line.

I'm with you, brother! I agree completely, I loved 25th, but even though there are still a few figures I'd love to see get 25th:ed that never got made (so I really like Big Boa, shut up), what I loved about both ROC (once they moved away from being too much like the movie) and POC was that they made fantastic updates to the classic characters, that at once both paid tribute and respect to their4 classic incarnations, but at the same time moved forward.
I love City Strike Snake Eyes and Desert Battle Zartan, I thought the first ROC Destro was great, I've loved almost every POC figure so far (especially the Predator homages, with Spirit and Recondo being particular favorites), I liked almost all the Storm Shadows way more than I thought I would (Prince of Persiadow in particular), I think the Shock Troopers are amazing, and I think Wave 4 is fantastic in just about every way (and Low Light is a perfect example of an original figure that never got an update, until now - and what an update), with even the figure I was the least excited about (Skydive) still being a really strong figure. And in light of all of that, I gotta say, there isn't a whole lot in the upcoming waves that excites me. It just feels like a step back in a lot of ways. It feels too much like revisiting 25th all over again, only this time, some of the figures have new wrists. I mean, if I look around, I can probably STILL find Croc Master at Marshalls, so why should I pay more than double for the same figure, only with two snakes (and I like Croc Master!)? Hell, I'm not even that excited for the Volcano Viper repaint, because I think the orange just makes them look too mundane, too much like regular HAZMAT guys, and I'm absolutely[*]loving[/*] the Volcano Viper I got today. To me, it feels like some of the creativity is gone. I hope I'll feel different when I see them in person. Maybe some of the later waves will interest me more. |

That reminds me, in terms of more movie and video game influenced POC Joes, I'd like to see them update this version of Sci-Fi (YOJOE.COM | Sci-Fi) and redesign it a bit to be influenced by Isaac Clarke's suit from Dead Space. As for POC figures with a 25th feel to them, I would also like to see a new Interrogator figure loaded with all sorts of crude interrogation accessories (foldable chair, red hot iron, pliers, poisonous animals, syringes, a bright lamp, documents, a map, a scalple, a taser, Lie detector, etc.). My Cobra troops need somebody to fish out info from a captured Joe.
