Because man, I sure am!
I just need ONE set of each of the six figures. Six figures total. But, this shitbag is going to make it difficult obtaining these in central Iowa: rock lord 74 | eBay That's FIVE sets he's currenty sellng. He's from Altoona. It's fair to assume he got these all Wednesday. He already sold one set Wednesday, which he presumably found Tuesday: 2012 GI JOE Dollar General Set Of 6 Figures NEW MOMC lot 1 | eBay And then assume he's keeping one set for himself, so that's SEVEN sets he's hoarded. SEVEN stores cleaned out. That's most of the central Iowa stores that he's nailed. And it's also fair to assume that he's not done yet. Any more stores that he hasn't scored these at, he'll return to soon and hoard them to scalp, too. To think that I was worried about other collectors in this forum having loose lips with the employees at Dollar General, tipping them off about these so they'd either buy them themselves (like the loser manager at the Merle Hay store, apparently, and you KNOW he had no idea these were coming in or even existed until, reportedly, FIVE -or more- people started bugging him about them) or start playing games with them/playing dumb/playing games with them, as other posters have reported in other forums on here. I guess I didn't think I'd have to then also contend with some loooooooooooooooooooser, like eBay's rock_lord_74, going from store to store, EVERY DAY, hounding the employees and buying them ALL. I just want ONE set. Sure, they may and probably will restock, but when? What a pain. I do hope that rock_lord_74 puts his oh, $100 or so profit (after gas driving all over creation, eBay and PayPal fees, etc) to good use, like buying himself some Transformers, though. LOL Chode. |

I completely understand your frustration and share in it. Since I started collecting in the area I have noticed at least two other scalpers/hoarders (or possibly the same one) in our area but have yet to actually run into them. Whether this is someone new or the same, I don't know. The the whole scalper/hoarder debate is an interesting one and this is a great example of it being played out. One side says "You're a scalper!" while the other side says "I'm a capitalist!". While I'm not a fan of those practices I can't fault him for selling them. If this guy wants to drive around all day, wasting gas & time to sell figures on eBay, go for it. I can't imagine that this business model is a good one for the long term. After time, gas, shipping & all the various fees, you don't really end up making all that much. Sure, he might make a few bucks with this set but you also need to realize that soon the secondary market will be saturated with other people just like him, soon the prices will shift below a price where it is no longer profitable for him or people like him to do this. So after it's all said and done, how much is this guy really coming out ahead? Like I said, bad business model. While I'm not a fan of scalpers/hoarders, I also believe it's yours if you get there first. If you're willing to get up early, get to the store first, go for it. That's his right like the rest of us have. I DO have a HUGE problem with guys who bribe employees or use deceptive practices to obtain these. Do I think scalping/hoarding a good thing? No. Do I respect those folks who do it? No. But that's not what you and I are really frustrated with is it? No, we're frustrated because we want our shot at these figures just like everyone else. I'll be honest, there have been very few figures since I started collecting that I haven't been able to obtain over time. I think patience & networking are the best tools to do make this happen. THIS is one of the reasons we wanted to start a IA Collectors group. It would be better to band together and help the needs of our community than do the whole "lone wolf" gig. This is not directed at "yojoebro" or anyone, it's just the direction I propose we go as a community. In addition, I'm sure that there are a lot of people who look at these "sightings" threads for info on where to find these. Heck, they might even be checking our Facebook page too. I've been trying to figure out a way to encourage people to be a part of our community while limiting the amount of info we put out there for those "bad apples" who are bent on ruining the bunch of Joe fans in IA. We are organizing some more meet-ups and other things that are focused on the positive aspects of collecting. Who knows...maybe you'd find some of those there! I know I'm hoping to see some! If I find any, I'll let you (and the rest of the crew) know! Outbackk |

Outbackk I just want to say that I agree with you 100%.
That's why I am trying to become more active on this message board so that hopefully we can grow our collecting community. For those of you who missed Assembly Required you missed out on a great time to share with others your hobby and I think we'll all win if we build community. BTW and in the true spirit of this thread I stopped by Toy R Us in WDM this morning and saw that the Techno Viper Renegades wave was there if anybody needs them. Peace Brothers! |

Eh, not sure why such egregious and selfish hoarding solely to scalp is being quasi-defended here. It's pathetic.
UPDATE! Douche rock_lord_74 on eBay has sold all of his Dollar General Joes sets, but one! Oh, I hope he'll have more listed tonight! What a bargain price, too, at $81 per set. That's just $13.50 per figure (over 2x retail)! And, if you buy/bought one of his sets with the white factory box, he'll only charge you $10 for that empty white box! A true collectible, sure to go up in value over time. A veritable family heirloom, to be sure! rock_lord_74 is a turd. |

I am glad to say that I grew up in Pleasant Hill...NOT Altoona! I know one of those sets had to be the Pleasant Hill DG that I missed out on when visiting my Mom on Tuesday.

I agree with Outbackk. I don't collect the new figures but I've been keeping my eyes open at the DG's around me, and if I see any I plan on picking them up and offering up to other local collectors or other Tankers. I don't plan on any price gouging or eBay scalping, I can't stand selling things on eBay anyway.

Not specifically Joe, but I just stopped by the 141 Target to look at discount Sky Strikers and they have a bunch of the big Cap Am 'Ultimate Fighting Vehicles' for 9.99..........they make a pretty sweet modern APC.
