I'd call Resolute an in the park homerun because it was in the ballpark of what most of us were looking for.

Lots of flashy animation and explosions with a threadbare plot, less than non-existent character development, and a couple of B-List character deaths to make it seem like it was gritty and mature but only ended up appealing to an extremely niche nostalgia based market?

I don't know about you, but I'm still looking.

Resolute, to us, seemed like the ultimate win just like the German King Tiger did to the evil army, but it turned out to be an evolutionary dead-end. Resolute is too violent and gritty to be shown on a channel or time-slot that would appeal to kids, and it's a property that's too old and not savvy or self-referential enough to appeal to the late night collage crowd. It's not anime so the other half of Adult Swim's audience won't care that much. The target audience small as it is, are already buying up everything Joe, so you start to add up all that and it's no wonder Hasbro and CN didn't bother going out of its way to promote it.

Without the nostalgia factor, Resolute just wasn't that good of a show, and nobody is going to make a regular series just for the nostalgia crowd.

unfortunately, those who tout Resolute as being what G.I. Joe should be aren't interested in how it plays to everyone else, they simply hold to the belief that since they like it everyone else will to.

The difference there being how many people seem to like RoC.

RoC Amazon.com Sales Rank: #775

Resolute Amazon.com Sales Rank: #9,027

See, it's a lot easier to claim you're in a majority when you're actually in a majority.

I enjoyed Resolute, and for that matter ROC as well. Were they the be all end all of the GI Joe experience?... not even close.

I never joined in on the debate threads for either, because I know what I enjoy just by watching it, not because someone on the internet said I should or shouldn't. Nor do I expect everyone else to feel the same as I do.

You want to over analyze a "home run" as a baseball analogy? Go right ahead. Maybe a "hit" compared to a "foul ball" would have been better.

For me Resolute was the only GI Joe animation so far that "scored" with me personally entertainment wise. Nothing more than that. Never said or meant that it was the greatest thing ever or that I wanted the new cartoon to be like it. I can see now why my original comment would get a face palm if the poster thought that's what my idea of a truly good Joe cartoon is (Zefram makes some good points in post #22).

So yeah, all I hope for is that the new cartoon is enjoyable, but I'm sure the debates will rage on here regardless if its "good" or not, never quite meeting expectations

I'm just glad we still have GI Joe in some form. I guess I've learned (maybe settled for less to some) to take my enjoyment when and where I can. I definitely enjoyed watching ROC with my nephews and hope the new cartoon is enjoyable for them too.

In the end it just a cartoon based on a toyline, and that's how I qualify my expectations.

I have to agree here. I liked resolute...was it the joetoon i was hoping for?? not exactly. But it was entertaining. I really strongly dislike the old toons. I really don't want the same thing, i want the joe franchise refreshed, renewed, and otherwise updated. And in this respect, Resolute succeeded.
