Always got a kick out of the fact that, the second DiC got the battle armor on him, he went back to being a full-fledged human without multiple eyes or blue skin.
I would have been interested to see how Sunbow would have handled his return had they done Season 3. I imagine the battle armor would have been some sort of means of "stabilizing" his mutation.

I suspect Hasbro knew the movie had gone way to far, because Operation Dragonfire was just one big reset for the franchise. Getting rid of Serpentor, bringing back human CC, completely ignoring the Rawhides introduced in the movie and bringing back classic characters like Stalker and Rock n Roll.
Not sure what the performance of Joe toy sales were at this time, but it's pretty clear they were trying to sweep the events of the movie under the rug. |

Even sweeping the events of the movie under the rug couldn't recover the cartoon franchise.
the DIC stuff was absolutely awful anyway |

Oh, DiC's run was bad, no doubt about it. But there was clearly an attempt here to bring the franchise back to the status quo.
I'd argue the toyline did as well. 88 and 89 had a lot of my favorite figures. Gone were the Crystal Ball's and Raptor's from the line, and in were stuff like the Iron Grenadiers and the Night Vipers. The goofiness was toned WAY down. |
