As it is, I'm seeing a 50/50 chance it'll be bad, it could be the next Catwoman, or it could wind up being the next Spider-man I imagine with the success of Transformers, they will probably put more into it then some of the other comics style movies. The lessons learned from some of the bad movies *should* allow them to see which direction it should head in. Hopefully Sommers gained something by going over to Hasbro. The potential is there... given some of the espionage movies of recent years, like Bourne identity, etc. |

I know of a LOT of members of the Transformers fandom who've "gone to ground" due to their immense hate of where they've taken the brand with the movie and Animated (one Allspark member, Phazer, claimed that because the movie "wasn't enough like what people remembered, like how they redid Doctor Who" it would bomb. He hasn't been around much since the film made over $600M in worldwide gross (thus far). Here is something VERY important to keep in mind that many don't: the script(s) will change. John Rogers (Core, Catwoman) did the initial screenplay for Transformers. When Micheal Bay was brought on board, he brought with him Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, who refined the script, characters. Michael Bay further refined the film during filming. I got a hold of the first "filmable" TF script in May of 06. The end movie didn't change much, but a majority of the changes were for the better. Right now, the production process has barely begun. Sommers will alter one of the existing treatments to his liking. Hasbro will be putting their own five cents in on the production, as they did with Transformers More than likely, the final shooting script will have only a passing resemblence to the ones leaked online. And that doesn't factor how actor charisma, the director's hand, or sfx will further refine the film. Let's actually see a trailer or something before condeming the film.

Everyone 'poo-pooed' Transformers before it came out....but look what happened.
I'm not saying that this is going to be the same thing, but just trying to give some perspective is all.......

I think hasbro will lay their foot down like they did with Transformers. Remember, its due to them that Prime had his original colors as well as Bumblebee being yellow, et al. Originally Prime was going to be blue and silver and lack the horns on the sides of his mask.
I think Snake Eyes will still be mute, Action man might not have a major rule compared to the rest of the joes, and the movie will be a modernized retelling of the origin from 82, much like Marvel's "Ultimate" universe. |
