Ok, this thread is getting lame now. I dont mean to insult anyone here, but some of you guys need to read a book or two on how to run a bussines. Everything is for profit of course, thats why you start a bussines and sell items to the consumer.
On officially licensed items such as these GI Joes, the manufacturer sets the prices, not the retailer. The Manufacturers prices are based on many aspects. Not just a few fat cats trying to fill their pockets. These items are flying off the shelf faster than they can be stocked. Everywhere is sold out, even hasbro itself. That means that the manufacture has to produce more product. (buy the supplies, manufacture the figures, print cards, ship...etc) With the rase in gas, electricity, minimum wage, taxes, medicare an so on, retail items are also going to go up because it simply cost more to get them on the shelf. GI joe action figures are not the only thing affected. Everything is going up in price. Food, Clothing, Cosmetics, Household cleaners etc. because it now costs more to make and ship these products. Action figures have been at a pretty steady price for the last 15 years some a little higher than others, but they are reasonably priced. Oil though has now pretty much quadrupled in price in the last 15 years. Everything we use today, no matter what can be traced back to oil at one time or another. With the steady decline in the value of the American dollar, and the steady incline of oil, things are going to be priced accordingly. Everyone is affected by this not just the consumer. Why do you think the majority of major corporations are run from out of country? Its simply too expensive to manufacture items on a large scale in the U.S. If all toys were manufactured in the U.S. we would be paying more than double. I have been in the packaging industry for 20+ years now. And i have seen more and more companys go out of country because its too expensive to be in the U.S. Last edited by Jism83; 04-25-2008 at 08:24 PM.. |

I know this has been addressed, but I'd like to reiterate it because it seems that it needs to be hammered home. Star Wars toys ARE increasing in price. The Legacy Collection and Clone Wars waves are going to be $7.99 MSRP. So, to say that Star Wars are "less expensive" might be true in the short run, but its going to end up where they're the same as they were a month ago, in that SW is going to be $1 more than GI Joe.
What blows my mind, is the fact that Marvel Legends, at least the non-Hulk Legends waves, are going to be $10 still, which is only $2 more than Star Wars. Though, I suppose the figure is only 2.25" taller, it does come with 1/6 of another figure, bringing the price to basically $8.50 a figure. (If you buy all the figures, and in the Target wave, every figure to me is awesome, so.) That is, unless they do increase the price on ML, because the Hulk Legends wave is $15. (But includes a piece of a 15" tall figure) |
