In my opinion, that's why the movie is a positive thing, even if it does end up being a piece of garbage. It means Hasbro will produce new vehicles in the 25th Anniversary scale, stuff we wouldn't have seen otherwise. I have the Larry Hama stories for entertainment if the flick doesn't meet my standards; I do not have a shiny new jet fighter.

I'm sorry to say it because I hate being negative, but I absolutely abhor just about everything I've been hearing and now seeing about this movie.
Visually, I cannot stand what they've done to these characters. To all of you people who say that the classic looks (updated a bit) wouldn't work in 2008, I could not disagree with you more. Why wouldn't they work? How are bland, generic black "power suits" that take away from the uniqueness of the characters a good thing? If the 1982 generic green look would've stayed throughout the line from year to year, the line would not have taken off the way it did. These pictures are very, VERY disappointing. Just because the name "G.I. Joe" is on the title of the film does NOT make it so. Same goes for the names of the characters. Just because a character is named "Storm-Shadow" does not make him so. What would make this film in reality live up to the name "G.I. Joe" is a loyalty to the endearing characters and story we all know and love. Completely changing or somewhat changing 90% (completely arbitrary percentage) of the familiar things that made the franchise so popular and then slapping on the name "G.I. Joe" (and naming the characters somewhat accurately) doesn't make this a G.I. Joe movie. That's a fact, jack. From reading all 30-some pages of comments in this thread, it's pretty apparent to me that some here will blindly accept ANYTHING that has the name "G.I. Joe" on it. Not me, sirs. I just can't accept some things like this. Therefore, I most likely will not pay to see it....and I'm sure that Paramount and Hasbro won't care, and that's fine with me. From the looks of it, this is more like X-Men: Sigma Sux or Metal Gear Solid : International Heroes. On a slightly more positive note, I can deal with Snake Eyes, Hawk, and Baroness as they look right now. They all have looks that are unique and at least somewhat resemble the characters from the comic book, cartoon, and toy line. Why they can't do that with the other characters is beyond me. I totally agree with you mate, this isn't G.I.JOE, but more like a fan film to me and to everyone, since it doesnt look like G.I.JOE at all. this film should be dumped. I say protest and tell paramont that we dont want this movie any more. |

I hope we get some movie themed vehicles that do not show up in the movie, but fit with the aesthetic and based on the classics, like a new Skystriker and Tomahawk. I have a feeling we will see some big news and more reveals for the movie at SDCC that will get more people hyped.

Well I feel your sentiment, realistic or not. And the post you were replying to was right on as well. The thing that sucks about theese films (the other being transformers) is that now we will never get a good GI.Joe movie. Not the old one, not this one. Then again I don't know. The Hulk sucked so they gave it another try, The punisher sucked so they are giving IT another try. Both claim to be starting over from scratch too. Though the results remain to be seen of either of those two films, it would be nice to see them do that if the Joe movie blows. Woulden't hold my breath though.

two, you contradict yourself. you say it doesn't have to be historically accurate, but then say he should look like a ninja, which inherently infers there is an accurate way for a ninja to look that it must resemble, and if that is the case that look must be based on how ninja have appeared throughout their history.

plus, does Snake Eyes in his visor look like a ninja? you don't seem to have a problem with his costume,

and he's just as much as a ninja, is he not? your argument is weak because you only apply it to where it is convenient because to do otherwise it crumples under it's own weight.

I am confident that the majority of the audience aren't experts on ninja's and have zero preconceived notions of what they can look like.

I fail to see how it is simply impossible for a ninja to ever wear a white suit,

I am not saying the decision is infallible, thus you cannot infer that I believe Hasbro is. I have said the decisions they made are based in reason and analysis of the characters
