Q&A answers are starting to trickle in!!!!!
http://www.cooltoyreview.com/story/f...ers_113826.asp Quote:
Cool Toy Review: Since you went back and re-painted the Snake Eyes 25th v1 figure all-black for Wave 5 (a much welcomed update to an already awesome figure!), is there a chance that you may do that for the Snake Eyes 25th v2 w/Timber? I know I'd love to see that one also painted the more accurate black, rather than the dark gray of the original Wave 1 release...and please make it the black wolf variant, since that is next to imposible to find.
Hasbro: Right now there are no plans for this, but we are looking into it for the future. Usually we are hearing from fans that they have enough Snake Eyes. We may release some more black wolves in the future. Cool Toy Review: Seeing that clear figures seem to be popular with collectors, and that Zartan is one of the coolest characters in the GI JOE universe, what are the chances of seeing a single carded, clear (stealth) Zartan figure beeing released. Maybe with some attention to his eyes (at least that you could see them), his bow, a sword (he did help Snake Eyes build his first sword!), and maybe a small hand pistol. This could also be another opportunity to make a chase figure with this one also. Maybe a grey "smoke" version? So, what do think?! Hasbro: Sounds like a really cool idea, we will kick it over to the design team. Cool Toy Review: Will you be carrying over lessons learned from feedback received from the 25th line into the movie line, i.e. better articulation for action poses, stronger hands, etc.? Speaking of the 25th Anniversary line, will some version of the 25th line run concurrently with the movie line? We'd hate to see the "classic" character releases come to a complete halt while popularity momentum continues to build. Hasbro: The movie line will feature a blend of movie and classic characters and is being led by the same team which brought you 25th anniversary. This line will delight both collectors and kids! Cool Toy Review: Here's a few of the most frequently asked after figures...any chance we will see them in the 25th ANniversary line? Wet Suit, Thrasher, Zarana, Blowtorch, Mutt & Junkyard? Hasbro: Two out of five isn't bad. Cool Toy Review: Since the new Joe line seems to be so popular now, is there a chance we can get the Q&A to be monthly anytime soon? Hasbro: The plans are set for 2008, maybe in 2009. http://www.joesightings.com/forums/i...showtopic=7745 Quote:
1. Are the vehicles we are going to see all remakes of original Joe and Cobra vehicles or will we see some new designs, understanding that the movie
line will have its own new releases when they hit the stores? Up until movie we will be honoring the 80's vehicles. At movie you will see a mix of brand new and classic designs. 2. We are now pretty close to San Diego ComicCon time, can you give us some indication of what exclusive(s) we'll be seeing in San Diego, or if not those specific details, at least some idea of what scales those exclusives will be for? The exclusives will be debuted on GIJoe.com in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. At Toyfair we announced there would be two exclusives; but did you know that only one of the is 3 3/4''? 3. Will we be getting a 25th anniversary style Ripcord, before the movie comes out? Some fans are worried that once the movie gets closer to release, we'll be limited to one that resembles how the character appears in the film. We are finalizing the 2009 plans as we speak and don’t yet have an update on Ripcord. 4. We already have most of the characters for the Cobra Faction from 82-85, however we are still missing alot of the Joe characters from those years. How are you going to get the Joe side caught up to their counterparts? We will be at JoeCon, tell us what you want in person. In the mean time, enjoy Wave 5 with Hawk and Barbecue two great characters that fans have been asking for. 5. Recently Toys "R" Us has started receiving what appear to be newly produced shipments of the older 8" toys. Is this an indication that we may start seeing more older stuff trickle out, and if so, dare we hope that new items might be on the horizon for the 8" scale? This is a trickle of old product, there are no new plans for the 8'' scale. Quote:
Assuming production on movie figures has already begun for 2009, what does that mean for the budget and resources for Anniversary figures for the next 12 months?
You will not be disappointed with the remainder of the anniversary line. The GI Joe team at Hasbro is getting bigger and stronger. Recent pictures on eBay have revealed that in some cases the 25th Anniversary Logo has been replaced by a "Comic" or "Cartoon" logo on the single packs. Can we anticipate more figures being drawn directly from one continuity or another going forward? This was our solution to removing the 25th logo after a full year of celebration. We are using the [top right] corner to call out the inspiration for the figures. Rumors are abound everywhere about the Comic. Can we expect a date for an official annoucment on the comic's status? Any day now a press release is coming. Regardless of which company gets the license for the G.I. Joe comic book, what influence does Hasbro have over whether or not they keep the existing 25 years of continuity or start fresh with a new story? Hasbro has a lot of influence and will put a lot of time and thought into the direction of the comic. I'm sure you're getting tired of being asked this, but considering " Scarface " got a release in a recent comic pack, what are the chances of getting Dr. Venom, Billy, or Kwinn? If they're not on the release schedule, why not, since demand is pretty high?\ Sorry, none of the three are on " the list " Quote:
Figures.com: Transformers seemed to strike a good balance with putting out a big budget movie, then coinciding that with an animated series shortly thereafter. Are there any plans to follow the GI Joe movie with an animated series?
Hasbro: Sorry , but we are not quite ready to talk about 2010 just yet. Figures.com: For the first part of the year, we were getting pretty consistent updates on GIJoe.com and GIJoeClub.com for upcoming single packs and comic packs. We haven't seen updated new pictures for a while, can we expect those to continue going forward? Hasbro: We are holding back on some of the releases so we can debut them in person at JoeCon and ComicCon. Look for the ComicCon exclusive on GIJOE.com. Figures.com: We heard a few months ago that Electronic Arts was working on a GI Joe video game. When will we see updates or progress on the process for production? Hasbro: EA will lead the charge for updates from their end so sit tight. Figures.com: What kind of interaction do you have with the GI Joe Collector's Club in regards to their character choices and figures for their Convention Sets? Do they ever "reserve" characters for those sets meaning Hasbro cannot use them for their own? Hasbro: At the beginning of each year the club gives Hasbro a couple of options they are considering for their sets. The Hasbro teams looks at the plan for the year and asks the club to make changes if there is a conflict with the mainline. It is a painless process. Figures.com: Will we see an all-black version of everyone's favorite v2/1985 Snake Eyes with Timber? Hasbro: This is the second question we have gotten on this. We will look into it. Quote:
1) With all but two of the Original 13 getting the 25A treatment, what are the chances of Zap and Short-Fuze being released?
One of the things we have been trying to do is slowly and surely release the original 13. We are working on the last 2. 2) Could you possibly, at some future point, provide walk through the production of a current figure as some kind of special feature to the Hasbro or JoeCustoms.com website, possibly with photos and pictrues trace the figure we buy on the shelf back through distribution, shipping, packaging, assembly, painting, molding, creating of the molds, and on and on back through the production process back to the initial idea for a specific figure? It'd make a great article and would be really informative. We have discussed this in the past and considered both trying to address this at JoeCon in one of the panels or with interviews in the GI Joe Newsletter. Lets us talk to the design team and see what we can do… 3) Will the movie figures be a separate line and will they be in 25th style? Yes the figures will be a separate line and they will be true to the quality of figures you have seen over the last year. 4) Do you ever get together with the Star Wars team to share ideas/techniques? With the recent Evolutions Darth Maul being so close to the GI Joe 25th Anniversary design, they could really benefit from incorporating the GI Joe hip joints into their high end figure format, and they have not had the limited range of motion in the ball jointed elbow that so many of the new Joes have had recently. Perhaps a meeting of the minds would be a win-win scenario for everybody? Yes, the Hasbro teams (both design and marketing) get together and swap ideas. This has not come up yet, thanks for the heads up. 5) Now that Wild Weasel, Ace, Wild Bill and Copperhead have either been released or are on the way, are there any plans to release their vehicles? More info on upcoming vehicles coming at JoeCon. Quote:
1.Will the 25th line and the movie line be released in Australia?
We are just as excited about the live action G.I. Joe movie as we were about the globally popular "Transformers," however it is too early to give specific distribution details for the movie line. 2. Will multi-pack figures such as Torch, Ripper & the Tele-Viper be released on single cards with the original card art? (Similar to Wave 4 2007). This was not in our original plans, but upon hearing the fan upswell for this we are now reconsidering. 3. Certain molds with articulation flaws like Duke (elbow joint, wrist swivel) and Cobra Trooper (crotch) have been released several times over without the fixes several other similarly afflicted molds received. 1.) Why have these popular molds not yet received fixes and 2.) Will they ever receive them? Because some molds have been in continuous use, we have not been able to make changes. We are attempting to incorporate fan feedback and continually upgrade all products. 4. Will we see a consistent scale used for all the figures to ensure uniformity of parts? (IE: Breaker's, Spirit's and Serpentor's Heads being larger than other figures and therefore requiring "one use" tooling for accessories) This is one of the areas of fan feedback that we have heard and are working on improving in the future. Quote:
TNI: What company will be getting the G.I.Joe comic book license?
Hasbro: Keep a look out, we hope to have an official press release any day. TNI: Will we see non-movie (25th or Joe vs. Cobra) based toys released along with the movie line in 2009? Hasbro: In Spring 2009 you will continue to see a classic based line and Summer 2009 will be a movie line. Not to worry, the 3 3 /4'' movie designs are based on 25th anniversary. TNI: Will the movie toys be in the same scale and style as the current 25th anniversary line? Hasbro: We will be exploring a number of scales for the movie, but plan on having a strong 3 3/4'' business based on the anniversary line. TNI: Can you tell us about this year's San Diego Comic Con exclusives for G.I.Joe? Hasbro: We are planning a special reveal on GI Joe.com..keep your eyes open for it. It is a worthy follow up to last year's Destro. TNI: Are the Cobra Vamp and CLAW which were mentioned in a recent Hasbro PR still in the works, and will this Cobra Vamp be the Cobra Stinger? Hasbro: The Cobra CLAW will be debuted at Comic Con in July. The "Cobra VAMP" as it was referred to in a press release is in fact the Stinger and will be seen in 2009. Quote:
1) Will we be seeing a DDP version of Joe Colton in the 25th line of figures?
There are currently no plans for Joe Colton to appear in the 25th. 2) How do you pick which figure gets made for the 25th line? The design team comes up with a recommendation and then the team discusses the options. We take into account which figures are the most popular with fans, would look cool, and fit with the rest of the line. 3) Are the main Marvel comics the only Joe publishings slated for 2-pack treatment? I'd like to see some characters from some of the other books that have been released, like Frontline, America's Elite,"Declassified"s, either Special missions series, Master & Apprentice, or any of the newer story arcs from other publishers (the Joe/Transformer crossovers may be a bit of a stretch, but I'll mention those too). The plan right now is to do marvel 2-packs and brand new comics written by Larry Hama. 4) Will hasbro use old DTC or VvsV molds for other toy lines like they did for "The Hulk"? There are no current plans for this, but anything is possible down the line. 5) What are the chances of seeing larger playsets(TerrorDrome, Flagg, etc.) or vehicles (including fighter planes) being released for this line or the movie line? There will not be any playsets in the anniversary line. For the movie,we will try and put out a line that does justice to the 80's as well as deliver an awesome play experience for kids. Quote:
1) Will all the newly created comic 2-packs by Hama fit into the old continuity, or are some of them stand-alones (Ã* la Ninja battles or Valor vs Venom)?
The comics will all fit into the marvel continuity. 2) Who will have the rights to reprint DDP Joe comics, Hasbro or Devil's Due themselves (or nobody)? Hasbro has the rights to the comics. 3) When will the new Joe comic be out? Sorry, we are not ready to reveal plans for the comic book just yet. 4) What kind of reboot (if any) can we expect in the new comic? Sorry, we are not ready to reveal plans for the comic book just yet. 5.) What is the process for deciding what characters are chosen for the comic packs? Do the figures come first, or the comic? For the marvel packs the comic comes first and we look for great stories and covers. For the new comics we suggest some figures to Larry Hama and work with him to construct a story. Toynewsi has their questions posted now as well. Of note, Stinger and CLAW are confirmed. As well as a SDCC exclusive. |

Also of note, no classic Ripcord update is planned as of yet. I really hope old Wallace gets his due in the 25th style. And no repainting either. I want a Ripcord with all the bells and whistles. Airborne too while they're at it!

"Hasbro: Usually we are hearing from fans that they have enough Snake Eyes."
i guess they are listening. other than that, i think the most relevant news items were the CLAW and Stinger confirmations, and the fact that there are plans for release of 2 out these 5: Wetsuit, Mutt & junkyard, Zarana, Thrasher and Blowtorch. I'm hoping for Wetsuit and Blowtorch, but wouldn't be disappointed if one was Mutt & junkyard. |

It's strange that Hasbro put "on the list" in quotes. Is this one of their clever dodges? Because I just can't believe that they aren't going to put out a Kwinn when all they would have to do is put a new head on Arctic SE. And Dr. Venom has been at the top of fans' lists since the original run of comic packs in '04. I still think these are coming.
