Love it!
The unfinished Cuttet pic is golden. The inner frame really shows how he got every vintage figure so precisely the same size. No wonder all the parts werr so compatible. Amazing, inspiring stuff |

Thanks for all these cool images.
I do have one question. Does Bill still sculpt figures? The reason I ask is, with the connection you have with him, I'll bet you could relay plenty of requests from here alone.

Great job Gyre and Roshan. Really nice working honoring his wish that these are made public. While I understand why some folks want to keep these pieces of Joe history private and dole them out in little bits, I have always hoped that someone would try to change that mindset.
I hope Mr. Merklein is able to reap the rewards of working so hard on something that a lot of us have grabbed onto. IIRC he also sculpted the Rocky 2-up that was shown here about a year ago. I still have the old trade mag that those B&W pics on YoJoe came from. |

These and the concept art are amazing. I wish somebody would gather *all* the known (and find the unknown) work of this type and make a huge encyclopedia on the complete history of the O-ring/ARAH line. Straight arms to orange Flint. That's 28 years of goodness... It such a cool history and certainly a very different mindset back in the day.

this might sound like a stupid question.
The 2ups are slightly larger versions of the figures themselves aren't they. This is for production purposes right? I saw a segment on a show in the past don't remember what but I do remember they did a feature on the guy who created Road Pig and showed him with his family (the sculptor) and showed him with the 2up in hand. Does anyone else remember this? I wish that a book would somehow get made with the art of the figures. Something like what was in the recent ARAH guide.

Mr. Merklein should consider documenting everything in a book.

Awesome stuff. Thanks for posting guys.
Really great to see how it went from concept art, to sculpt to finished figure.
