Im just as excited to hear this as I was when I heard the original DDP title was coming together. We have been spoiled comics wise since then, we've constantly had joe comics in one form or another for the past few years that its hard to remember that there was a span of 6 or 7 years without any joe comics at all (unless you count DH extreme stuff). I have no idea what to expect giving where the series left off and also whats come since but I can guarantee Ill be buying it like everyone else here!

Larry best knew these characters, and how best to use them, and the fact that he was pretty much left to run the old Marvel run as he wanted and it's easily considered the basis and the best written Joe ever. Larry should have written the main book, and while other writers could and should have been brought in for the sub books like the multiple Declassifieds titles, Frontline and such to expand less used characters or spotlight characters like Flint, Larry should have had final say in what made print. I say this because of two things...1) Larry rules, and 2) DDP's run suffered from lack of one creative vision Josh started, and sorta let others do Frontline until Josh got tired, and lets be honest Josh wasn't exactly the best writer of Joe, but when he passed the torch he handed it to Jerwa, and for whatever reason didn't let Jerwa do his job...that mussed up the story. Then they rushed to bring Casey in further messing up what should have been an awesome story of the Red Shadows. Casey took over and had NO feel for the characters at all. He was brought in to give the book a fresh spin, and he did it by resurrecting a dead and obscure character from 20 years ago...in a story that seems like such a rip off of Jerwa's Frontline run. He butchered the story even further with his death and resurrection of Snake Eyes story. But Casey wasn't the only problem...the Dreadnoks Declassified book was aweful and unnecessarily confusing story that just annoyed everyone. Not to mention the completely un-needed Scarlet Declassifed origin that for some reason had Iron Grenadiers in it years before the unit was formed. Honestly if ARAH is gonna come back Larry needs to be firmly at the helm. |

I am excitedly looking forward to this. Best Joe comic news I've heard since the announcement of G.I. Joe Cobra II.

I'm very excited to hear that the original continuity is returning. I hope it does replace the DDP stuff, because in my humble opinion unless Larry wrote it, it should never have counted as part of the original continuity.
I wonder how well the new, IDW continuity is doing. The characters don't really seem all that different, and having the back story (Origins) run at the same time as the main title is a little confusing. Plus, the main title is pretty boring to me. In the mid 80's, Larry's work was magic. I hope he can recapture some of that.

You guys are pretty generous to DDP. When they first got the license there was tons of hype about it. It was right in the peak of 80s nostalgia, the first issue came out right after 9/11 and debuted high in the charts. They had the opportunity to keep it a top selling title.
But they squandered it and most of the years they had the license they put out garbage. and by the time they got it in gear with the WW3 story it was already far too late. I'm in favor of Hama continuing his series and ignoring DDP |

Now this will get me to buy Joe Comics again! I have not been happy with what IDW has done to this point.

When I read the headline, I literally pinched myself. I'm barely containing myself from running around the room hopping up and down shouting "yippee! yippee!". And I'm 30 years old, lol.
I remember distinctly, the Friday night I read like issue 152 or 153 and in the letter's column, someone asked why there were no more sneak peaks for G.I.Joe listed in some old comics rag that they handed out at shops then. The response from the editor was "sometimes, you ask questions you wish you didn't get the answers to. Yes, G.I.Joe is coming to an end with issue #155. It's been a good run". I damn near cried. Hell, I may have for all I know. I had been reading them since my early childhood, and into my teen years when everyone else was reading Witchblade or Spawn or some crap book with a Chromium cover. This is the best Christmas present I've ever received. Well, second best behind the Transportable Tactical Battle Platform. WHOOO-HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Interesting, but you know that old saying "you can't go home again"? I think it applies here. The Marvel comic days were great, but, alas, they are over. I'd still like to read this comic, but it's just a curiosity.
Oh, and I also agree with what Owner of a Lonely B.A.T. said above. For me, if Larry didn't write it is is fan fiction or a spinoff/alternate universe. Period. Last edited by blackbarn; 12-13-2009 at 08:53 PM.. |

However this time around, Hama isn't bound to the constraints of trying to sell the toys, he can focus on the story he wants to tell. I think we are in for a treat.
