The argument could logically be made that had the movie been better, more kids would be fans, and more importantly, more parents would be fans and buy their kids more RoC toys, and the market could have been further expanded, resulting in bigger demand for the set amount of supply we have.
The argument could also be logically made that had they not revamped Joe, and had it been a more familiar version, more parents -instead of saying, "man, this is nothing like the Joe I remember"- might have more excited to get their kids into something they used to be into, also resulting in an increased market. Just sayin. By most indications, most people thought Transformers 2 was a horrible movie. Yet the toys still sell. If perceived movie quality (or at least internet-perceived movie quality) were a strong indicator of how toy sales went, the Star Wars prequel toys wouldn't have sold nearly as much as they did, and Iron Man toys would have sold through the roof. Star Trek would have done much better, too. Ergo, there is little to no evidence that the perceived quality of a movie influences overall toy sales. Nevermind that by most movie sites, RoC tended to be rated as Average or better by the majority of people who bothered to fill in any kind of poll or "rate" the movie themselves. On the second score, I've yet to meet a single person (in the flesh) that said "I'm not going to go take my kid to see G.I. Joe because it doesn't look like MY G.I. Joe. I would have a very, very, VERY hard time believing that this would be such a significant portion of the moviegoing population that it would drastically affect ticket sales, much less toy sales. Personally, I suspect the poor economy + higher prices have had far more effect on the overall sales of the RoC line than the perceived quality or "faithfulness" of the movie. |

For someone to be a sucker, it means they had to be taken advantage of in some means.
How does that relate to toy sales? Please, enlighten us. One thing to keep in mind boys and girls. Back in it's "heyday" during the 80s, how many Joe figures and vehicles were produced PER YEAR? About a dozen figures (if that) and 5-6 vehicles. And that was in a single year. The 25th/ME and RoC had 3-4x as much coming out in a single year. I think it's funny when people consider a product "not selling" when the first dozen figures haven't completed disappeard in a 2-3 month period compared to when back in the day those same dozen figures would be all we'd get for the entire year.
