Ok i thought i'd give the run own on the sales of the figures for last week since so many are spelling doom and gloom on the line. For asst. A 4,520 figures sold and asst B 2,617 sold for a total of 7,137 for the week. Now before you say wow that is low, it is not at all when you compare with say the transformers deluxe figures(10.99 ones) which are the comparable ones which sold just over 7,600 last week. Now transformers are supposed to be the big seller right now so that should tell you how they are doing at target anyways.
Now the interesting part and kinda crappy part is this. Asst A there are 374,000 left at all target stores and 98,000 left of the asst B in the stores. THe weird part is that is about all there is. I mean there is only 734 left to ship out of asst A and 144 left to ship out of Asst B. SO there is good and bad. THat is alot of figures to sell through but i truly believe with a sale or two during the release of the dvd and the holidays a huge chunk should be gone come december. I am wondering if the POC figures are going to have a new DPCI or not since there is nothing in the system( stuff usually shows up months in advance). Plus doe sthat mean when POC figures arrive that ROC goes away? Makes sense yet i would think getting rid of all ROC would kinda hurt the new kids getting into the dvd and wanting figures. What do you all think? Last edited by kennywr22; 09-27-2009 at 10:45 PM.. |

The will probably go back into a heavy marketing campaign around the DVD's release RoC that is! I don't see much of the 25th line moving with the younger kids. They can't identify with figures that are nearly 20 years older than they are or old cartoons with horrible animation compared to whats available today.

I don't see PoC coming out anytime soon with the numbers of ROC figures and waves to go through. A lot of places still have not seen wave 4-5 at all due to waves 1-2 which are choking space for for even wave 3. There is not enough time really left for 2-3 more big sales to push through all of these figures. I also sense they wil be releasing ALL of the first 37 figures as that is the current assorments out there. Since waves 3,4,5 are scarce all over the country (I think most are still rotting in warehouses since 1-2 are soooo abundant and they are not stocking/restocking them as much so only 1 or so cases of 4 and 5 ever get put out if at all) kinda like they did with all of the 25th reivsion so those kiddies you mention will have chnaces again at ROC figures they may miss out on due to sales/lack of retail re-orders etc, even if they blow these figures out once agian.
However, due to the insane amount of this product sitting on sherlves, I bet every market is super saturated to the point these figures will be going the way of Indiana Jones figures (clearance to be shipped out for good) and the rest of the waves will either not be re-orded by the retailers of flat out cancelled all together by years end). Without the movie being in the theatres to keep interest up and with all of those crappy Avatar figures coming soon kids will loose interest unless they really ramp up marketing or provide another venue for tie in. This also spells a lot of difficulties on the road to POC for next year. They will have to transition out of ROC at some point to make the change into PoC relevant and then tie that to either the ROC sequal (Which I suspect witll be GI JOE 2: The Persuit of Cobra) to tie into thier new 4 envrionment ideas or a new cartoon that will do something similar. Either way I am sure PoC will be late to middle March or April at the soonest next year if not later. Maybe not at all if they don't figure out why no one wants this stuff but some of us LOL (hint substance, creativity and PRICE!).

Yeah I don't think kids are as put off with the notions of it being "20 years older then them" as they probabley do not even think that way. Its cool war toys with the name GI JOE on it, that is all they care if they like Joe stuff and thier parents will allow them to have it.
I see it all to often when I am out snooping th etoy aisles where I hear moms say "no those are war toys, how about legos or Transfomers look here is Optimus Prime you want him for you Birth day?". LOL it so lame to hear that kinda stuff....like the war between the autobots and deciptoncs is not a real war or something....

I did see a kid wanting some ROC stuff today at TRU. His mom used the classic "you can ask Santa for that" dodge and dragged him out of the action figure aisle.
I sincerely hope Hasbro's Joe team cuts their losses and quickly re-introduces a 25th/Modern style card and packaging which can incorporate the Pursuit of COBRA stuff we've seen as well as continuing to release some classic and Resolute characters instead of just focusing on the movie universe. |
