They've got to lower the price.
At $5 - $6, I'm a completionist. At $7, I'll get what I really like. At $8+, I've got to really like it, and it's got to look perfect (no off-center facial hair like all of the Acc. Suit Ripcords.) |

Walmart, Target and the rest have forced the increase of toy prices to eBay/secondary market prices. They did so because they were greedy. They saw eBay prices and said, hey we can get that? And some idiot gave them the go ahead to do so. They only had to realize one thing...slow secondary market = slow retail sales, period. They are all fools. 3 years ago I spent over $1000 per week at Walmart, they are lucky if they get that a year from me now. Take the tens of thousands of sellers (and scalpers) around the world into consideration and Walmart just lost a shit ton of money. The secondary value has been lowered and many collectors who cared about the value of their collections, see no value in collecting anymore. So now many sellers and buyers have stopped spending as much.....Congrat's Walmart/box stores, you just killed the economy (at least in the toy world)....and yet, you complain that sales are down. Somebody just take the guy who thought this was a good idea out to the nearest field, and beat him with an aluminum bat....please.

I think new buyers(The Kids) aren't getting their Joe fix cuz their parents who don't know jack about the toys won't purchase them.
I was at Target, and this lady and her kids were in the toy section searching thru the pegs to buy some figs. Well, the boy had Snake-Eyes in his hand, and his mother wouldn't buy it for him. She said they couldn't get any bad guys. The kids start saying their good guys, but she refused to believe they were. Anyway, my point if I have any, the Joe's look like the bad guys and the bad guys look like...the bad guys. They all look the same. Another little ditty bop. I took my son, whos 4, to get his 'first' G.I.Joe figure, and as we're searching thru the pegs looking for Snake-Eyes w/Timber since he wanted the dog, I point out Shipwreck, and my son says to me, "He wasn't even in the frickin' movie." After giggling, I thought to myself, Hasbro made this movie for a new generation, but are trying to 'trick' kids into buying figures who they don't no about. Or, are they trying to get people like me into getting these figure under the horrible package that is ROC? Anyway, thought I'd share some ish. Now back to my regularly scheduled program...things to eat after 4:20.

I'm not surprised by this.. i've all but given up trying to collect anymore. They are not refreshing the waves. I can't find the walmart exclusives--they aren't putting them out because they bought way too many wave 1's and put them out too late. Now all those just sit there. And my TOy's R US hasn't even restocked since wave1. Then the price increase to boot. It has all been a marketing/implementation fail from the beginning.

If the toy company's fail to see that letting the box stores dictate what the kids/collectors are offered and at what price, then they deserve to get their ass kicked by it....bottom line.

It's for those reasons alone, I don't go out much, when I do I see $24.00+ for a repaint or a reissued item.. Yet.. when I see something new like I did with the ill fated Ghost Sky Hawk... went back for it the next day when i had the money.. gone...never saw it again... same with stinger. Hasbro hurt itself by cutting a line that WAS selling. ROC noone really cares all that much about. or so it appears. so not suprised by any of the current downfalls. resession isn't helping either, but it's also not a high impact where people are losing jobs, homes, cars and clothes just to stay alive.

I was just thinking this today on a fruitless quest to find the Wal-Mart exclusives.
The pegs and shelves are packed. The film is fading in theaters. It looks like the ROC sections were just recently stocked when in fact the same stuff has been there for months now. The true test will be if the stuff moves during the Christmas season, but I am sensing another Indiana Jones debacle. Maybe Hasbro will cut their losses and go back to a Modern style line and Resolute. Call it "GIJOE Classic." I'll weep no bitter tears over the end of the Rise of COBRA series. This is what they get for not assimilating the Rise of COBRA line into the Modern line. I bet they'd have sold better if the Rise of COBRA characters had been on Modern "old school" style cards and just had the ROC logo. |

and this news surprises who?
The pegs are clogged with $8 boring looking, dull, gray-and-black figures. In contrast, the 25th line had a wide assortment of varied and colorful characters - and were priced at $5. Doesn't take a genius... or does it? |

The pricing strategy seems to be pretty simple to me: Price stuff higher, so when its time to have a "sale" - $5 per figure seems like a bargain. Hence, they get 'full price' (the $5 they really wanted) when they sell things at closeout... so who really cares how things are selling at $8 each...
I can't be the only one who thinks this is the strategy... ? |

I know that when stores have to run promos to move merchandise, a lot of times, the money for those promos comes from the manufacturer (in the form of credit/discounts on future orders) also.
