Since mine were originally in the classified thread, figure I'll add em here.
1 Bio Viper/Monstro-Viper, actually all the Mega Marines 1a Robo Joe & The entire Star Brigade 3 The Eco Warriors - all of them, too 4 Headman 5 Darklon Most of mine are obviously later-stage figures, and Slice to answer your question on the other thread, Darklon's head disturbs me, it's shaped so weird by comparison to almost all the other joes of that time.

I'm going to go with separate lists, one for 5 worst figures and one for 5 worst characters. I'm also going to forgo the obvious ones like Ninja Force, BF2K and Sneak Peek and focus one the earlier/better figures.
- 5 least favorite figures: 1. 1985 Snake Eyes. I once read a blog where someone pointed out that this Snake Eyes has weird, clumsy proportions, and I've never been able to unsee it since. His legs seem too short or something. Note: I've literally never seen the figure in person, so this is based on every photo of him looking odd. 2. Tripwire. Never been able to figure out why, but I've never liked Tripwire as a figure. He just looked like a dork to me as a kid. 3. Zandar. He was the figure you let your younger siblings play with, along with Slaughter's Renegades. 4. Night Force Falcon. Original Falcon is great. Sonic Falcon is almost as great. Night Force Falcon is a weird mix of decent colors, applied seemingly at random. 5. Back-Stop. I like the Persuader, but what the heck is going on with this guy? His armor could be okay in other colors, but instead he gets a decent dark green and gray along with a mustard yellow and bright red, again applied in the weirdest places. Yellow pants? Red shoes and gloves? What? - 5 least favorite characters: 1. Comics Snake Eyes. Early SE was awesome. He was a loner, dangerous but not invincible, kind of a jerk sometimes (I love the scene in an early comic where he literally takes everything, including a guy's hat in a craps game). But after about 45 issues, the whole "everything revolves around SE, and by the way he's super and also honorable" was just tiresome, and he'd literally become a different character. He sucks. 2. Comics Cobra Commander. Sunbow Cobra Commander usually fails due to hubris, infighting and the over-complexity and grandiosity of his plans. It's very rarely due to outright stupidity or incompetence on his own part. Hama's CC was failing due to his own incompetence as early as issue 5. He practices shooting all the time, yet misses Flagg at point blank range? Come on. That's when he started the erosion into the babbling simpleton he is today. 3. Cartoon Lifeline. He can't stop talking about pacifism. Which means he's an accurate portrayal of a pacifist, but still super annoying. 4. Comics Road Pig. He's so annoying, he makes Lifeline seem fun. Hama must've enjoyed writing him, because he kept showing up to single-handedly make the late 80s-early 90s comics unbearable. 5. Comic Scarlett. She's been a grating, whiny shrew since the early issues. I've always found her to be the most irritating regular character in Hama's writing. Sunbow Scarlett is a much more likeable version of the character. Quote:
Wow, I'm not surprised by Beachhead, since he got stuck as the ladder-climbing, stupid officer archetype, but Low-Light is a shock to me. Dude is like Batman, but without the whole "wears a goofy costume, too stupid to carry a gun" thing. To me, Lowlight is awesome. Last edited by SnowCat; 04-26-2024 at 03:11 PM.. |

yeah i'd add beach head and lowlight to my least favorite figures list because as much as i really liked their characters; their head sculpts are total poop.
just too big and fat. i remember being pumped as hell to get both of them at far separate times and then being deflated because their heads are out of proportion not just for their figures but even the figures of other characters next to them. My personal 10 least favorite ARAH figures. And I don't necessarily even dislike these, they would just be the figures I'd be least enthused about if they came to Classified. I honestly think nearly any ARAH-era figure has potential in this line, but some need changes like more subtle color decos, or slight deco changes, no over-sized and gimmicky weapons and better and more unique weapons when needed.
Couple of rules I gave myself: - excluded 1982 since that year is mostly boring to me - excluded any repaints since I almost always prefer the original deco or the characters the kitbash repaint used - excluded the 1992-1994 years simply because I only really like 1/2 of the figures from those years and it'd be too easy and felt like cheating to just name off those - so my list only takes into account 1983 - 1991 10 - 1991 Snow Serpent Another good sculpt but weird colors and some odd design choices that make him look too cartoony. Just change the yellow fur to tan or cream and move (or remove) the Cobra logos on the fur on the boots. 09 - Skidmark And yet another figure that I think just needs an improved deco and he'd actually be really good. 08 - Windmill Bad color deco again here, great sculpt and design but the colors and lack of apps ruined this figure. Giving him a better deco would make him so much better. 07 - Hot Seat Another one that has a good sculpt, but the colors are meh. Always appreciated that he was an older Joe 06 - Wild Boar I love the Iron Grenadiers, but he is just kind of plain and boring. Maybe a new design for the helmet would help him? I dig the red and black with some gold trim, as it fits perfectly with the main IG color scheme. He could receive some cool tech as well on his arms or something. 05 - Sky Creeper Just needs a better color deco. Maybe make the green darker and the yellows all dark gold or copper or even brown or something. 04 - Blocker I know the BF2000 lineup isn't loved by most, but I dig most of them. However, this guy is sort of lame. The funny cap and colors and design are goofy. 03 - Avalanche Weird design, though I admit in Classified he may actually be good with a better helmet design. He'd be a good addition to the arctic Joes. 02 - 1991 flattop Grunt Looks goofy with the weird Superman curl and flattop haircut and the weird yellow pants. Better colors like a white tank top underneath the jacket instead of black and khaki pants instead of yellow would improve him. The haircut is probably okay if the rest is improved simply because it's unique. I like most of the '91 figure designs, but this one was always kind of meh to me. 01 - Armadillo Silly bowl helmet. Bland colors. Always looked a bit boring to me. The old figure was missing his bullet bandolier and that didn't really help matters lol

Hahahaha! I admit I like a few of the '82 figures and I had a handful from when I was little and 2 of my first Joe figures ever were the Cobra Officer and the MOBAT and Steeler, but I didn't get those until late 1983, when I originally started getting Joe figures as a 5-yr-old. I bet if I had started getting Joes a year earlier those '82 figures would have quite a bit more nostalgic draw and pull for me. I still appreciate that year for what it meant and still means in toy and Joe line history though for sure!

his helmet always pissed me off. too tiny for his head and it didnt stay on. this was my grunt forever. still is. but god. i hate that helmet. i'd like for him to not have his leather jacket sleeves pushed up to his biceps, and an actual jacket; and probably some khaki or green pants so they look like coveralls. looks like i have some customs to make one day. also, what is it with making so many vehicle drives have orange pants? is the reasoning "you cant see them sitting down"? guess what else you cant see sitting down? no pants. and basketball shorts. Yeah, I like v2 Grunt's sculpt. I kinda like his rolled up jacket sleeves. Maybe he'd resemble v2 Hawk too much if they were pulled down though? That helmet was bad, just sat on too high and looked like it didn't fit right. That is a funny observation about the orange pants.
