Thanks. I haven't had a chance to sit down for a good read yet and I kept finding the generic filler pages when I flipped. Need to flip closer to Issue #1.

I should note that the pinups for the HAL and VAMP are printed in black-and-white in the compendium. This matches how they were originally printed on the inside covers of my Treasury Edition. Whereas the MOBAT was always full-color on the back cover, and is color here as well.
I've never owned an original printing for the regular size retail version of issue #1, so I can't say if its contents differed any, but I assume it matches the Treasury Edition. The 1988 "Tales of G.I. Joe" reprint included "Operation Lady Doomsday," the PIT diagram, "Hot Potato," and the pinups for Scarlett, Breaker, Flash, and Stalker, but did not have the HAL, VAMP, or MOBAT pinups. The 2004 reprint that came with a 3-pack of action figures (Baroness, Cobra Commander, and Cobra Trooper) only had "Operation Lady Doomsday" and nothing else. Skybound's recent standalone reprint of issue #1 has "Operation Lady Doomsday," the PIT diagram, "Hot Potato," a short preview of Skybounds's Duke #1, and the pinups for the VAMP (black-and-white) and MOBAT (color). It does not have pinups for any of the characters or the HAL. In that regard, the compendium is the first reprint I've seen that has close to all of the original contents, albeit moved around in order a bit. It's just missing the two relevant ads. I'm thinking that there may be legal reasons the ads couldn't be republished, given that they're advertising products or services no longer available. But that's just speculation on my part.
Are there examples of other comic book reprints that have republished vintage ads inside them? Wouldn't it have been awesome if Skybound could have coordinated with Super 7 for a mailaway offer of the Reaction+ Cobra Commander figure? Last edited by Josh Z; 01-13-2025 at 05:58 PM.. |

Pretty much any of the facsimile edition single issues DC and Marvel are putting out these days will be exact reproductions of the original issue, including all the vintage ads.

I am not sure this is an answer you are looking for, but the Gitcorp CDs that had all of the Marvel comics had every page, including all ads and letters pages.

Another big thing missing from all of these compendium issues is the "Postbox: The PIT" letters page, which appears to have started at issue #7 from what I can tell (though was a bit sporadic for a little while after that). I used to read those religiously. |

Does the Zarana card mention Zandar, in addition to Zartan?
