Four leather bound volumes? Would 500 be a reasonable over/under for the set, or am I way off? The compendiums are $60ish, but that's on newsprint. I'm guessing they want at least double that. I'm unclear on if Special Missions are scheduled for compendium-quality release or not, but they're for sure part of the Kickstarter edition.
I only have the first third of the Marvel run in TBP right now with a very incomplete collection of floppies for the years after that, definitely considering this for what I'm missing and maybe for the whole run if it's going to bug me to have a mixed set later. |

I wouldn't be surprised. Also, before I even consider it, I'd like to know whether or not the IDW run will get the same treatment. It would be nice to get both runs looking the same.

The more I think about it, the more I wished they had stuck with the "Classics" format. Tpb's that collect 10 issues at a time. I am just missing vol 9 of classics and vol 3 of special missions. I don't like the idea of all this over lap, so I am kinda up a creek. Any chance of them reprinting them in tpb's? Or maybe the compendiums being in the market reducing the second hand price of the old IDW tpb's?

Yeah, that's already common knowledge. My point was with the faux lether hardbacks, and questioning whether or not they'd do the IDW run that same way. Although now that I think about it, a faux leather hardback is just vinyl wrapped around cardboard that's likely to crack and peel after a decade or so. Maybe the soft covers are the way to go if both have newsprint pages for the comics.

I'd like ARAH reprinted in Marvel's "Essential" format (taken from wikipedia):
"Essential Marvel was a line published by Marvel Comics from 1996-2013 that reprinted vintage comic book material in paperback format. Each black-and-white volume reprints approximately 20-30 issues of a classic Marvel title (mostly from the Silver Age or Bronze Age). Each Essential contains between 450 and 650 pages, printed on coarse, matte-quality paper." |

Kickstarter launching on May 28 for a hardcover box set of all four Marvel compendiums.
"These collections include every issue of the original 1982 series G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero, G.I. JOE Special Missions, G.I. JOE and the Transformers, and the long out-of-print G.I. JOE: Order of Battle and G.I. JOE Special #1, across four stunning compendiums with box art by the incomparable Andy Kubert (X-Men) and Brad Anderson." I hope they do hard covers for 155 1/2 - 300+, as well.

I'm still reading the original comics, but did the GI Joe comic ever have any explicit Marvel universe references? The Transformers comics do, and as a result certain issues have been censored or removed from reprints when under IDW. Was curious if there's a chance of that here.

There is a cheeky not named Duke cameo appearance in Spider-man. But that isn't in a GI Joe comic. There is a Hulk cos player in issue 10. And there is a cameo of someone that looks suspiciously like J Jonah Jameson in one issue but that is as close as it gets. |
