Especially to the outdated format of o-ring. Curious what the spin will be this time when o-ring fails to catch on.

No issues with them wanting to focus on classified for the next 1-2 years to finish it off but should have just given S7 the rights to o-rings from the start. Instead they disrespected the brand and style that made them in the 80s.

100% agree. Hasbro did o-rings a disservice with their half-assed approach to doing them with the 2 packs and crossovers. It?s very apparent they did it just to do it. There was no thought put into the line at all.

Yeah, it obviously didn't do great, but they created new tooling for A-listers, gave it a Haslab, and even attached it to one of their strongest brands (one with much more international appeal than Joe as well) for which stuff continues to get released including vehicles that never got new molds during the Modern Era. That doesn't really sound like a disservice to me.

What is your definition of dying? The line stopping all together? Probably not. The line going the route of 50th anniversary and TVC/TBS? Absolutely it will. The repaints will be coming at a higher rate by 2025 and beyond. That is Hasbro?s M.O. and they have not shown anything to deviate from that with any line.
Many well respected collectors here and other places have said after 2024/25 the line will decline. Whether it is price increases or repetitious characters or company financial struggles like this year. It will happen. Nothing GI Joe has sustained success of more than 5 years since ARAH. The 25th line was red hot from 2007-10. The POC line was good for a year or so. The 50th line had a chance to extend both but every new character gave us 3-4 straight re-releases like Cobra Commander, Duke, Alpine, Cobra Trooper from the DVD packs. The GIJCC sub figures were great then fizzled. In all reality we are probably on the last legs for GI Joe toys right now. I would be shocked if by 2030 there are new classified, o-ring, ultimates or ReAction figures being made. I hope I am wrong but I have seen Hasbro screw it up too many times.

That doesn't really sound like a disservice to me. The Skystriker is phenomenal and surpasses the OG version but minus the new Ramp Rat figure, which could be in the running for figure of the year. Whoever had the idea of doing them in 2 packs was stupid. Hopefully they are no longer with the company. O-ring collectors are old school. Just release the figures individually on cards with good file cards and the white border. Nobody can say Hasbro put the sane effort into the retro/o-ring line they do with classified. It was not even on the same level as TVC or Marvel retro in terms of effort. They failed collectors.

It was half hearted at best. The crossover figures are under the TF license, budget and creative team. The TF characters are the right ones. The Joe figures not so much. The designs are average at best with poor paint, putting those stamps on the back of legs. The accessories are straight repacks from the retro line, which was abysmal.

I would imagine if Super7's O-ring line becomes phenomenally successful (I'd like it to be, but it won't, so let's pretend), Hasbro might see potential in re-investing in it down the road once Classified has run its course. Obviously that puts the onus of success on Super7's shoulders, which is a questionable and heavy burden, but that's where it's at.

O-ring will likely stay niche but that doesn?t mean it won?t be successful. How many more folks would have bought Reaction had it been o-ring? I don?t know but definitely more. Reaction is doing just fine. So o-ring has a place. I?m not saying it will top Classsified but a healthy and creative line from someone will be welcome.

I could collect vintage if that were the case. Give me classified-level-detailing on o-ring figures? I'd take that. |

The only way I want O-Rings is as something new - and top-notch. NEW high-level, detailed sculpting. NEW outfits for classic characters. NEW characters.
