Yay! Though this is probably Kup/TTT and not Optimus. And this, I think, marks the first time a collab is unveiled on a TF stream instead of a Joe one. I wonder if Lenny or Emily will get to cameo... |

Second, size... Some have said Prime would have to be a Rolling Thunder, R.O.C.C., all sorts of "big" vehicles that are more reminiscent of his trailer truck alt mode. The more "peaceful" aspects that have also been mentioned... yeah, I don't know, guys. I don't really buy that. But size - and price point? Yeah, sorry - even an APC would probably be a lot more expensive than we think and... well, going back to my first point, they need to keep these somewhat reasonable. The engineering and design work that goes into making them transformable at all already makes these fairly expensive, especially for Joe vehicles! Finally, the design itself - as others have pointed out, the MOBAT probably allows for a lot more of the blue and red parts to be hidden in alt mode, which is key to keep the realistic colours of the MOBAT. I'm actually quite surprised by the reaction to Prime as a MOBAT myself, I think it's just about as perfect as they could have come up with. I'm really interested to see how it turns out! As for Slaughter/Kup... that's a bit odd. I am getting the impression that the Sarge's marketing rep/team has really been working his own personal "icon" status and how that fits into GI Joe, with great results. It's just great that we've gotten him a LOT recently, in Classified, now this, and not that long ago that whole Valaverse thing... just a lot of Slaughter in a very short time! And it wasn't all that long ago when all of us were speculating that his likeness was so tied up in other lines, etc... (I'm not complaining, I've always liked him!)* Hmm, an obscure 2000's direct-to-consumer alt mode that would probably cost us somewhere between $300-500? Epic is one word...

Honestly I think we are all overthinking this. They are prioritizing Joe vehicles, I think, for two main reasons. First, it seems like this is being marketed more toward Joe collectors than TF ones, which makes sense because Joe fans are notoriously picky (and cheap), while TF fans will buy almost anything. I don't know how true this is - this is just my own subjective, somewhat informed feeling after collecting both lines for, well, decades at this point. But yes, all that is to say, it seems like they are prioritizing the "icon" status of Joe vehicles over the Tranformers' characters usual/traditional alt modes.

ANYWAY, I agree that they're being careful with the vehicles in terms of what designs they can port over. And I think they really liked the idea of Megs and Optimus both being tanks. As amazing as I think my APC idea would've been because it so closely matches the aesthetics of Optimus, I don't think (a) they could get something that big out to retail and (b) it makes for a weird matchup with Megatron. |

I'm just excited to get SOMETHING about these sets soon. Was worried they cancelled them after the S7 announcement for taking over o-rings.

Same same. Hopefully whatever we see or hear next week is not only cool, but is quick to ship compared to the first three sets. Would love something that's in our hands by end of Q2 at the absolute latest.

I agree. I just wonder if after these 2 rumored packs (we now know at least one of them is for real) they will continue. Starting with Megatron and ending with Optimus sounds like a logical end...but the line feels empty without a Starscream

If they're willing to go with Kup then there's a lot of runway left.
Super7 will be focusing their O-ring on cartoon/comic, so Hasbro can continue to focus on ARAH rehashes in these crossover sets. No streams are crossed. |
