Look how shitty the faces are of recent figures : Chuckles, Lowlight, Grunt, Clutch, Big Boa, Quick Kick, Alpine, Road Pig, Starduster, Duke, etc.. this sculptor needs to be fired.
where is the sculptor(s) that did Outback, Stalker, Rock n Roll, Major Bludd, Scrap Iron, Spirit, Recondo, Action Sailor, etc??? that should be the ONLY sculptor(s) they hire. Of those listed, Road Pig is the only one that I have a slight issue with. I think the rest are fantastic. and yeah, calling for someone's firing is waaaayyyyy over the top. These are real people, with real jobs, with real talent. A little understanding goes a long way. edit - After looking at more pics of Wild Bill, Ripcord, Glenda, Crazy Legs, Alpine, Dial Tone, and Leatherneck - I have a question... Do they have ANY face printing tech AT ALL? Can someone post some good hi-res photos? They seem very flat - like just raw plastic, with no faceprint over them at all. That would explain a lot. Crazylegs is altogether very weak. The head isn't a dealbreaker for me but the whole body has a soft sculpt. By that I mean the lines are kind of mushy, uneven, there is no clear and crisp definition between elements. The padding looks so bad. It's so hard to describe the difference between a good and bad sculpt in a concrete way but on a good sculpt when there are raised elements like a pouch with flaps you can almost feel like you could put your fingernail under the flap and open it and every fabric element flows and shows wrinkles and sits just so. When there are buckles and hard elements a good sculpt I've seen some buckles that look like they really are two pieces put together but they aren't they are just sculpted so well it looks like two interlocking pieces. A soft sculpt is just simple shapes, a buckle may be a simple rectangle with a round bit on top but it doesn't look like a buckle just the idea of a buckle. A weak sculpt pockets are just raised puffy shapes and the flaps and closures abruptly merge into the pocket itself because they are obviously all one piece instead of looking like an actual flap resting on a pocket. Strangely the black outer straps appear super crisp and detailed. The green thigh holster looks like mush, no texture and just basic shapes. The body just doesn't look right. I don't think I'll be interested if they use the same body if/when they do a normal color version. I love the other figures, haven't gotten to the vehicle itself yet.

While I don't think the Action Sailor sculpt is exactly bad they do both look very erm.. "Angry" to me.
Sometimes the decoration can ruin what is an otherwise OK sculpt - take Tripwire for example he's got some much paint on his face he looks like a Silent Movie era actor. Sure some sculpts are a bit "Funny looking" you can say that about plenty of figures.. but I find I get used to them over time. I'm used to Cover Girl & Lady Jaye now for example. I expect I won't think Glenda or Quarrel look to weird in time. I do appreciate it when a sculpt make me smile like "Sexy Lip bit Baroness" does for example. The only sculpt that I found so goofy I immediately put the helmet back on is standard Tripwire (the Tiger Force one isn't quite so bad) and Big Boa. I think one of my fave sculpts is Roadblock - it is a face that manages to have a lot of personality to it without looking cartoony. Sure there is plenty I look at and think "could be a bit better" like Retro Scarlett and Duke. Didn't most people think Starduster's head was really nice though ? I think I'd say I like Doc and Airborne a fair bit too. I think Shooter is low key pretty in a slightly fierce way.. I like both of the lady Marine's head though. [P.S.] There is a new image doing the rounds of what looks like a completely painted and finished (Ninja) Slice Classified figure. Also the Weibo page for Gi Joe Special Missions also has some images of the final version of Heavy Duty and the coloured test shot of the Action Fire Fighter (the shiny lines on his outfit look nicely realistic I'd say). While he's not something i'd army build full price, I am coming around to liking the character more as a pal for Barbeque & as background decoration if nothing else. The weakest post of the dragonfly is the fact that I didn't get two.
Wild bill is great and his gear is perfect. Trying to decide what to do with the extra hat. Ripcord is super spot on, and I added a parachute from the halo jumper to him. Joe he is unstoppable. Crazy legs is cool, I like how nicely outfits for the mission he is. Glenda is a great figure. If they ever give us a Skyhawk, she will be piloting it. I put my harness on stalker with the rest of the night force team and the dragonfly. Super excited for next year's haslab which should be joe themed. This was a great buy and I have zero regrets |

I'm guessing we would get the (Long rumoured) Thunder Machine first if it has been in development longer than the (also rumoured) Snow Cat. & they seem to like their Dreadnoks. I think having that out would help sell Zanzibar too at some later point. In fact I think it would really help Fans Hobby being able to sell a Dreadnok Air Assault set too. (Perhaps that is even why they decided to make a Fang Next - they had that repaint set in mind in the 1st place) what with them having their 1st two releases being both the required moulds to make that set.
I know I keep saying this but I do really seriously think we'd need more than just a Snowcat to sell the snow theme better. Have two releases of the Snow Serpent and not much else besides Snowjob and an Arctic BAT. A Polar Battle Bear would be helpful for a start. I'm not holding my breath for an Arctic Hiss mind you.. even if the driver for that looks really nice. ///////// Not decided what to do with that Harness yet though. |

The funny thing is I bet the same person did some of the sculpts we all universally like and some of the sculpts we all universally deride.
Art is not an exact science and in some cases I feel like the deco is the problem which is probably done by a completely different artist. As much as we all love and applaud Lenny for what he does, the reality is these are products developed by an entire team of people. Calling for one of them to be fired (again, just a regular ole employee for a toy company) because an action figure didn?t turn out the way you wanted is a bit much. Its not that serious that someone should lose their job. For the record, I think Crazy Legs face looks bad. Hoping when I have mine in hand tomorrow that its not as bad as it looks in photos. Also, unrelated, I was watching an interview of the Haslab Ghostbusters team and Emily was on it. Regarding a question about the preorder model the Marvel Legends team is using, Emily mentions that the VAMP sold 25,000 units in 48hrs and that if they had done a open preorder model like what they're doing in Legends, they would have been able to sell more as there were still a ton of people who had missed out. Just thought it was an interesting note. We do a lot of speculating around here but this is a data point straight from the company marketing team. 25K vamps is a lot of vamps. Maybe we'll see an open preorder ala the Sentinel for Classified. I don't know what the deal is with the new preorder model. Sabine and Chopper were like that and then they went in stock after shipping and are still available after 2 months. So, not exactly 'made to order' as some say. Looks like any other regular stock item that was skinned as something that would be limited to those who ordered. I can see making a few over to cover defects or whatever, but 2 months worth and still going is a full blown run regardless of the limited preorder window.
