The Swamp Skier has little reuse. And while it did come with the now legendary Zartan, the vehicle itself never had much exposure in media. I can understand why Hasbro hasn't sunk funds into making it. I'd rather they put money into something more useful.
A shell of a MOBAT is a bad idea. Those McFarlane vehicles are essentially shells. That format just wouldn't mesh with the Classified stuff we've gotten. If we get a MOBAT/Mauler, it'll be a Haslab. I don't see the Armadillo at $100. There's essentially nothing to that vehicle. It's half the size of the VAMP. A Devilfish is similar to the Armadillo. I bit more complicated but there just isn't much to it. Someone mentioned the amount of parts going into a vehicle and not just the size. I don't think there's much to the Devilfish to justify it at the $100 pricepoint. I see it more akin to the Ferret. Larger than the Ferret but with less parts. A $65-75 pricepoint for the Armadillo, Devilfish, Polar Bear, and FANG seems more appropriate. I'm wondering if we'll get a Joe MMS. Certainly, Hasbro developed the Cobra HMS with the MMS repaint in mind. However, the Cobra HMS still hasn't sold out. I can see them holding off on the MMS until the HMS sells out. Maybe we won't get a new accessory weapon (Whirlwind, ASP) until the HMS and MMS run their course. |

Love the concepts here. As an long-time fan of pro-wrestling, I think of the ideal show as a variety show; there's something for everyone on a given show (or there should be). Tell stories of varying emotions; tell drama, make sure a match has lots of comedy, etc.
Overall, though, there's something for everyone, but not everything is for someone, necessarily. Learning that lesson has helped curb me of some of the more toxic traits of fandom - if I didn't like something before, it was a capital-p Problem. Someone screwed up, the entire program was stupid. Now? I just realize it was meant for someone else. So that applies to toys, too. If I don't like it, try to temper my emotions by thinking it was meant for someone else to enjoy (and hope that those people do, in fact, enjoy it). ...still doesn't explain Falcon's first head. ;) To Slice's original point, I think there is something to that. I collect Joes as a remembrance of my childhood. I don't want exact scaled up replicas, but toys that look like how they "should" have looked in my childhood mind and weaponize that nostalgia are what I'm looking for. Making it too modern or "adult" and it no longer clicks for me. Make it too silly and even my childhood didn't buy it. It's a fine line. Intentional or not, Classified not tying itself to specific lore or continuities has relaly been to its benefit and created the largest possible fan base of collectors. If they tied themselves to a one of the cartoons, a comic line, or a modern "grim and gritty" asthetic, they would likely have lost a significant portion of the fan base. Right now, they are trying to keep the designs somewhere in the middle where they can please most people but never all of them. |

I would prefer Heartwrencher and the Swamp skier than another Zartan.

Totally agree. And pro-wrestling is an apt analogy -- there is a lot of division in the fan base over the "realistic" portrayal of matches, the dramatic elements, the comedy, and the supernatural stuff. It's not all that different from toy collecting. Personally, my all time favorite wrestler is Bray Wyatt, so I am well aware of how divisive the fan base can be for acts that don't fit the mold of what they like.

GI Joe has certainly become a personal head canon or each fan had developed their own Joe multiverse. Rather it comes from comics, cartoons, file cards or how everyone played as a child each is very unique. This why I think media will never be very satisfying for everyone?a Joe movie or new cartoon. |

Swamp Skier holds a remarkable and unique position in Joe lore in that it is almost completely irrelevant. I?ve met collectors and fans who were convinced Zartan was single packed. It has absolutely zero cultural cache. It is utterly vestigial to Zartan in a way no other vehicle has ever been to its driver. It truly seems to mean nothing to anyone.

Its hard to predict how a toyline will go, right now, Classified is strong, we are on our 3rd Haslab that has funded and appears it will unlock all its goals, every vehicle being released is selling out and we have a vast variety of characters to chose from, whether you are wanting to be a completionist or casual collector, this line for the moment looks to remain strong for abit longer.
Imagine being a power rangers lightning collector and literally Hasbro decides after 4 years, we are done, meanwhile several teams are no where near complete, we can talk about the quality of the line which is a valid conversation, but no power ranger collector will finish those teams, that line is dead, Classified is far from dead or even dying, quality is good, amount of figures being released can some times be overwhelming, but thats a good problem to have for any line And half the problem w/power rangers was it was kind of niche sure a lot of people watched it and certainly a lot of people collected them but not like legends/joes , they werent even terrible figures i have 7-8 of them and the pink ranger hunter/killer is one of my top 20 favorite figures i own she just has a look to her ..

I realized something. That made more sense than the age old arguments of comic vs cartoon , or realistic vs toyish designs.
Some of us want our childhood toys to stay the same as we grew up with, and some of us want our childhood toys to grow up with us. For the sake of which one is better ( I?m guilty of this ) , I think seeing it from a ?grow up or stay the same? way clarifies no one is wrong or right, just which one is more reflective for you individually. Random thought I wanted to share. Quote:

Got my Stinger today. The doors do pop off fairly easily, but there was an immediate stress line on the inside of the C-shaped connection piece on the door, so I don't know if I'd recommend taking them off and putting them back on repeatedly. I wasn't as confident about taking the windshield off, it feels way more brittle.
