On one hand, you sell the bananas that are on the cart not the ones you might have next week, so I'm happy to see the GI Joe brand do what it's doing right now and cashing in on kidults wallowing in nostalgia and what might happen in the new comics. Energon universe might take off? That's the hand you've been dealt, good to bet on it being successful.

On the other, I'd kind of like to see the brand live on past the age groups they're selling to right now. If that means doing something radically different (Like moving from Adventure Team to ARAH was), I'd be open minded.

I am oversimplifying this, but give me like 40% call of duty, 40% metal gear solid, and 20% Captain America Winter Soldier in a new Joe media project and I will be steadily aroused.

I dont understand why there is a market for all 3 of those properties but its so difficult to crack the code for GIJoe.

Hasbro wants to be a family-friendly toy company that doesn't offend anyone other than those who've invested in nostalgia and financed the continuance of a brand that has kept Hasbro alive corporately? Just a guess, though.

As a kid, I got into GI Joe and MGS at basically the same time in 2000/2001 and to me the unique members of Cobra always functioned like Metal Gear bosses.

I wonder about this a lot too. The template is already there for a great GI Joe game. Just take Ghost Recon Wildlands (and I'm sure someone on here has probably suggested this one before) and provide a big roster of GI Joe characters to select from instead with different attributes. You could have a 4 man squad and could switch between them. Set it in a huge open world map (could be Cobra Island, or Freusenland from the comics) and have different areas you need to slowly capture by doing missions and taking over outposts, toppling a high ranking Cobra member in each one. Could have all the classic vehicles in there available to call in via air drop too, and could also hijack the Cobra vehicles. I would love infiltrating some Terror Dromes, or the Land Locked Freighter, stealing a Rattler or Mamba off the tarmac to make an escape. Make this happen already!

You are not wrong but this shit isnt for kids anymore and hasnt been for decades probably. Even they know this with classified. They are designing these for adult collectors. What kid is watching a pulse live stream at 11am on a wednesday? They know who they are selling this stuff to.

My next point would be that all 3 of those properties I mentioned are still marketed to kids. Have you ever been in a call of duty multiplayer lobby? Most of the players balls havent dropped yet.
