I'm not so sure that's an accurate statement for an "all encompassing" analysis. Sure some of it sells horribly, but the very reason some can't find it is because it's selling through. Especially if they discounted an older wave and the newer wave arrives on that same, adjusted discount. There's also the issue of stores not getting the product out in a timely fashion, so that when the product actually hits the floor, it's several waves behind and doesn't sell (so they ignorantly let it rot on the pegs while sending the newer product, sitting in their distribution centers, to discount retailers). That's a distribution issue that's been plaguing B&M long before the pandemic. That's not even addressing stores like WalMart who might have Classified available online, but don't ship it to a lot of their stores, so you'd never see it there, anyway. Frankly, lots of reasons, but "selling horribly" is limited to a small, very specific aspect, not the whole.
I agree with your statement 100% but it made me think back when kaybee toys owned the discounted figure market they had-everything @ one point in time or another i picked up 4 of the crimson hiss w/asp boxed sets for less than $15.00 apiece back in the early 2000?s and some micronauts even spy troops joes and then lotr as well among the many figure/stuff they would get and sell on discount . Even media play ? i miss that store?would pull the target card and discount a figure/whatever a month after they came out i picked up 2 of the jawa sand-crawler from them for $25 and some change that store killed it on the clearance .

I've never once found any classified worth buying in Target. The last time I checked was when the app said Breaker was in stock and they only had a couple boxed Lady Jaye's on the peg. |

I'd think it's more to get people in the store than making a profit on their exclusives. How many collectors are going in Target to find a Tiger Paw that's not there? Then they're likely to buy something else instead of walking out empty handed.

Area and local itself some store barely sell toys wall/target included i was @ a wally south of ft myers and all of their spray cans were behind locked glass cases .. its all about the local/traffic per store when i lived in columbus full time there were so many wallys/targets and i take in account for other collectors whatever only a few stores would get the same product at the same time or even @ all . I hunted like crazy back in the day ..

I take it stores in more populated areas get the best stock. I'm in kind of a rural area and it's been a complete waste of time going in any store to find Classifieds. I see lots of pics online of nice clearance deals and full shelves and that just doesn't happen here.
I totally get it big city small village/town . Here in punta gorda there is a walmart that has a liquor store attached to it a few walgreens and thats it they get some stuff but not much . Now go north across the peace river and there is an ollies/target/ross/wally/many walgreens and its hit or miss i know a few collectirs but see many others .. its weird demographic/local feels about spot on here .

We have huge distribution hubs for everything as well.. doesn't seem to make a difference.

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and we never have any stock of anything around here. Could be there are tons of collectors that just snatch things before I see it I guess... but I don't even waste time hunting for stuff any more in brick and mortar stores.
